Tire help: Geolander AT-S vs. Terra Grappler

As someone who has the Revo 2s, albeit in P, if you do any offroading in mud, this is not the tire for you.

With the normal caveat about any A/T in mud, I'd disagree. The wider than average shoulder lug voids seem to make this A/T at least average in mud which means a lot considering how good it is on dry pavement.

Maybe in Nevada the Revo 2 is a decent mud tire, and on the 4th gen, but here on the East Coast, in any load, putting the Revo 2 in mud is similar to skating on ice.

Thinking it was just my ride that was ill effected by them in the muck, my friend put some Revo 2s on his T100. The results were marginally better in the mud but were upstaged by the Hancooks he put on afterwards. His original Revos performed much better in the mud.

For snow and rain on pavement, the tire is great. With the Nitto TGs, my 4runner would get to play in the mud all day. If the OP rarely comes into contact with it, the Revo 2s are a viable option.

Yeah, the Revo 2 center tread would tend to fill up a little faster than many so if you're right at that threshold where the Revo 2 is center packed and something else is not, Revo 2 would under perform. Once the center is packed on each tire, where the shoulder lugs come into play, that's where the Revo makes a come back and then some, imo, but your point is taken.

I had the Geo's on my F-350 and they did well. now I have a runner with Duratracs and live in Montana. granite this year is SAD as snow goes, but what little I have played in the snow they did good.

never had the TG's so I can't compare those. I would say both choices are good and you would be happy with either. just depends on price.

Now, we do have Rocks and Then... there is 4-Ripcords driveway which
has gravel the perfect size to load up my Revo 2's for at least 2

I didn't think about it at the time, but the last time we were at the in-laws, their driveway was greasy mud and the jeep was like somebody had covered a sheet of ice with ball bearings. Thanks for the heads up on the mud performance of the Revos.

Well, problem solved. When I went to pick up my suspension stuff yesterday, the shop I bought the stuff from had a set of 4 90% tread TG's in P285/70-17 for $425 and a set of 5 FJ Cruiser wheels for $500. A little steep on the wheels, but a killer deal on the tires I thought, so overall a pretty good deal.

Now I need to get some 1/4" top spacers to make my Tundra coils/struts match the OME 890's and I should be good to go. How bad will I rub with 285's and this setup with no BL?

that is a killer deal! even though the wheels are a little on the high end, consider the cost of buying new after market wheels.... they are gonna be at least $120 each and probably not as good of quality.

kid, are you running a body lift to clear your 285's? If not, how much rubbing do you have?

+1 with The kid, that is a great deal. The TGs are a great tire. Not to diss the Revo 2, they have their merit as a great snow/rain tire, but just not for wheeling in the mud.

no body lift, just 99talls, but i had the 285s before i put in the talls. but once i armored the truck with the 285 on it i had more rubbing issues(as the armor weighed down the truck -only gained about .5" from the 99 talls cause of all the weight). i only have rub at full lock and flex, so 95% of the time i never notice it. its by no means bad or annoying. but then again the bighorns are one of the narrower 285s
