Tire load ratings: How High?

When I get new shoes for the Runner, I will most likely get the LT rated tires. The basic LT load ratings will normaly be C load. I am thinking about a D load that Toyo is supposed to have. Here's why:

My Tahoe came with P265/75/16. The first time I changed out the crappy Wrangler RT/S that wore like crap, I went to the BFG A/T LT 265/75/16 in C load. Much better ride, but I think much better due to much better tires and not on load ratings. My last set for teh Tahoe I decided to try hte D load. Got a set of Toyo Open COUntry A/T "D" rating. The stiffer side walls and firmer tread rode even better, less body roll, and more authoratative response.

My Tahoe weights very close to the Runner: about 4,400 piounds. About the same wheelbase. Almost same size tires. So why not a D load?

Anyone here with expereince or comments?

I'm not saying yes or no to a D range tire but D will weigh more than a C. Rotating weight has a lot more effect that static weight. At some point along that line, I'd think it would start to effect performance and handling.

I don't know if you'd notice the difference from a C to a D in this case or not.

I know this from my bicycle racing days where saving an ounce on the wheels was equivalent to several ounces on the frame. Lighter wheels made my bike MUCH more responsive. It was very noticeable and over a road course circuit or sprint, that was important.

Same applies here, but the scale is a lot different. Food for thought.

That being said, I did NOT notice any handling change from my lighter Dunflops to the heavier BFG's I have now. Smoother . . . you betcha. :D
