Tire opinions please '04

I have a Black 04 that Im looking to work on. Id like to put 33” tires on it, along with a set of Procomp 7105 Alloy (see pic below).


Ive spent tons of hours researching and looking at other members' tires, but Im still really struggling with it.

First, I want something wider than 285. Either 295-70-17 or 305-65-17.
My off-road driving is rather limited, so Id like to get a radial that isnt too loud on the Hwy. But I want to get something that has a pretty “meaty” look to them.

I’ve listed the tires Im considering below. Id be very interested in opinions on these or others you think I should consider.

(I considered the Goodyear Duratracs and the Firestone Destination MTs, but they wont work out b/c they come in 285 width.

I am looking for some rims also. I have 305/70/16 on my stock rims and 305 is ~ 10.5" and the factory rim is only 7".
But might I recommend the Wrangler MT/R Kevlar, they are really quiet and very agressive and look awesome!! They also grip the trails like a road.

To the OP: why have you chosen MTs if your off road driving is limited? I know we love the agressive looks, but they get poor snow/ice traction and terrible treadwear.

I had the same decision. I'm off road 10-15% of the time, and still went with my Yokomaha AT-Ss. Very aggressive design, but quiet and better treadwear at the same time.

I've had it in some nasty stuff already and they really bite! They are 33x11.50 on 16x8" wheels. I haven't regretted the decision. I also feel that 285's (11-11.50) are plenty wide, going much wider will require careful measuring for backspacing on the new wheels.

This is my 03 with the 11.50s and no spacers. They fill the fenders well.

Based on the light off roading and most of the time on road as well as your list of tires I'd say Grabber or Baja ATZ.

Why aren't you considering BF Goodrich A-T & M-T?

I personally have had both of the BFG tires and they have been GREAT to me. I had 2 sets of M-Ts on my last truck (although they were KM not KM2) and currently have the A-Ts on my 4runner.

edit: the MTs were 305/70R16 but the ATs are only 265/70R17

I spend most of my time off-road. I am part of a recovery team, and every weekend my 4R does not see paved roads. But for such an agressive tire they are really quite on road. I do get a lot of rub though. I had to cut nearly everything off the inside of the fender... I still get rubbing on my UCA and my sway bar. I am thinking about spacers and new UCAs to resolve that though.

I must say though these MT/R are amazing in the rain also, will be testing in the snow this winter when I drive up to PA.:roadkill:

I like the look of some of the MTs....and it sounded like some of these might do pretty well on the road as well. Thx for your suggestion to look at Yokomaha AT-Ss.

The BFG tires didnt really have the look I was going for.

BFG ALl-Terrains with KO side and rim protector. They are awesome tires in most situations except serious mud. They might not look as tough as others but will perform better and last forever! That's my experience anyway. Good luck.

I would also consider Toyo MT's. Low noise (for a MT), balance great, and good life.
