I haven't heard much about the Nittos. But are you looking for a true dedicated winter tire, an all-terrain tire or something more of an all-season? For all around driving with some decent snow/powder capability I'd choose an AT.
Have you checked the comparison charts on the tirerack website? Relatively useful info there based on customer feedback. I really liiked the Firestone Destination A/T's I had. They were as good or better than the Bridgestone REVO's and Michelin LT's that I had previously and were a good bit cheaper.
Lot's of choices. Do your research.

For the snow, I had BFG AT's while living in CO and they were great on snow and ice especially. They are probably a little more expensive than the terra grapplers but they look better and last a pretty good while. Many members on here don't believe me when I say that the BFG's can get 70-80k miles out of them without trouble. As long as you rotate them every 7k or so then they will treat you right.

Ive searched around and found some good info but not many people talk about the Nitto's. I was guessing they may be a newer tire and have not had a lot of road time.

My brother runs those on his Montero and speaks highly of them. I may have to give them a chance. Thank you both for the replys. I need to get a good set before the winter sets in.

Whenever I see a thread like this, I always chime in to tell the OP about the Discoverer ATR that I like so much. Great in snow and quiet on the road. Here in NY, a lot of guys with plows use them, so that should give you some indication of how good they work in snow!
My 4Runner feels virtually unstoppable in the snow with the ATRs, especially when compared to the Dunlops that came on it new.

Do you find the ATR noisy on the highway? I'm currently on my 2nd set (for my 4th gen) and I think they are virtually silent. They are at least as quiet as the stock Dunlops that came on my 4Runner.
Joined up here today to respond to this thread. I've been lurking on here for quite a while getting ideas on what to do to my 2006 2WD V8. I've decided on the oh-so-popular Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift and up-sizing to 265/70/17 tires.
Yes, I'm only 2WD, but I hate the rake the stock setup gives so I wanted something to take that out and not compromise the ride quality or MPG too much, but also run a slightly larger tire. I'm not offroad very much, but when I am it's a logging road or something that would require a decent A/T tire.
I'm going to toss everything on this weekend.
After considering the Terra Grapplers, Hankook DynaPro RF10, and Bridgestone Revo 2 (which I've run before and liked), I settled on the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I did so because they seemed to get OK reviews all round (including some positive ones here), but the price was outstanding. On eBay, Discount Tire Direct is currently selling them for $585 shipped to your door. That price is really tough to argue with.

Hi all ! Well about 2 wks ago I put on the Nitto terra Grapplers 265/60-18 On my 08 4Gen limited v8 . Well to start I never did like the OE tires that came with it, they only had 20k miles on them . I had balence problems with them for about 18k out of the 20k miles ( its a long story I wont get into at this point ) any way What a difference in the ride, Handles better Corners better smother ride and very quite . After adjisting the PSI in the tires to 30 rear / 35 frount Im getting the full contact patch of the tire on the ground . I'll report more as i add miles ! so far im very pleased . Now If i only can get them balenced correctley I'll be a happy camper!
