Tire Pressure Question

What tire pressure do you run? I am about to buy 255/75 mud terrains from tirerack, just waiting to find a good deal for fj wheels. At what pressure do yall run you mud terrains? I know that higher pressure = better MPG, but it also = harsher ride. I am thinking probably about 28-30 to keep the ride civil. What do yall think? Thanks.

You can't know for sure without knowing the load range. Your stock inflation is a little less than the max of 35psi. You needs to use enough air to provide the same weight capacity as a P-tire with a max pressure of 35psi inflated to 32psi. What's decieving is that in order to accomplish this C, D and E tires have to be inflated to a much higher value than you might think to be safe. I can't imagine less than 37-44psi being right.

More than one person has used E tires with 35-38psi on a half ton pickup only to experience catastrophic tire failure. E tires have a max of 80psi and seem to need 43-48psi even on a light vehicle.

Point of all that... 28-30 seems too low for on road driving to me.

Ok well they are going to be load range C so from what you are saying, I gather that they will need to be inflated to probably 40 psi with a max of 45 psi

I wouldn't feel comfortable (safe) at less than 37-38 and 40 is exactly the number I'd start with...

I've got a question along these lines. I'm looking at getting C rated BFG AT/KOs and their max is 50 psi. I know a lot of people on here run those tires. Is there any problem with the tire pressure sensors if I'm running higher psi tires like that? I imagine since the tires are for warning of very low pressure it wouldn't be a problem to run higher psi tires, but I'm also no sure if higher might be bad for the sensors or damage them. Or even E rated with a max of 80 psi. No problems for the sensors? Thanks.

I think it's highly unlikely you'd damage them but some GM's and my old Nissan would trip a light on high tire pressure as well as low tire pressure. I have checked my T4R tires when hot and seen a reading of 43psi with no pressure light.

Thanks. With so many people running C rated tires I imagine it would have come up in several threads and postings and my search would have turned something up either here or toyota120. Should be fine. I'll find out soon enough.
