Tire Pressure Sensors

Hi guys,

Can anyone confirm the tire pressure sensor logic followed in the 03-09 4Runner?

- What pressure is considered "normal" range and what pressure does the sensor trigger the low-pressure warning lamp?

- Once it is triggered, does it stay on until some number of engine on/off cycles pass with the pressure back in the normal range?

"Normal" is on the door card, but if you're running different spec tires, its up to the manufacturer. I don't believe TPMS read a high range, just a low range.

TPMS info starts on page 190 in the 2006 owners manual.

I couldn't find a clear PSI threshold, but my 07 usually kicks on at 28psi or lower (been more frequent now with colder mornings/warm afternoons) so I would think the threshold is around there. That seems to be the magic psi #'s for a lot of TPMS systems.

Page 191 says the indicator goes off after a few minutes of said tire being inflated. Usually happens quicker than a few minutes. I turn the truck off, top off with air, turn it truck on, and indicator is off.

I run my tires at about 40 PSI and program my TPMS to turn on at about 37psi. Get a cheap programmer and reader off Amazon and do all that yourself.

Can you post the name of the prog/reader you use?
I want to reprogram mine at a higher threshold than the factory setting.

Factory they are programmed to turn your light on 5psi up or down from what your door placard says.
It will turn off as soon as it detects the correct psi in all tires including spare.
No key cycles needed
There is a write up on how to turn off the entire system
But honestly what I do is just take all 5 sensors throw them into the spare and call it a day
As long as the spare is at the psi it should be the light will never come on.
I've done this on GMs and Fords as well after lift kits and them running larger tires
Fast, easy, effective.

I actually found that my spare tire was down to 27-28psi... brought it up to 34psi and light went off.

New member and first time 4 Runner owner.

I want to thank luke87gt for starting this topic and mizak82 and MarkamisPrime for the mentioning of not forgetting the spare! :rockon:

I bought a 2004 4 Runner Limited with the V8 about a month ago, I have never owned one before but after a lot of research for a good second vehicle I decided on a used 4 Runner or a Tacoma, I have been looking for a good deal for the last 2 years and found this one for around $1500 less than KBB, the low tire pressure light has been on since I bought it, the seller didn't know what the issue was and I hadn't figure it out as of yesterday, I made sure all the tires were up to specs on air pressure and the light was still on, I never even thought about the spare until I was looking for some other info on 4th gen 4 Runners and found this forum, I checked the spare and it was down to around 30 PSI, aired it back up and the light is off now :dancin: , Thanks again for the info guys!!! :thanks: :yo:

I'm also extremely happy to find out about the extented warranty on the dash pads, mine looks like a road map, going next week to get one ordered for my new ride!! :car:
