Tire Pressure Warning Light TPS

My wife left today on a road trip in our '06 SR5, and just called to say the TPS light came on on the freeway. Yesterday I had the truck at Discount Tire for a rotation/balance and air at 32 (stock wheels and tires). They did not check the spare because the jackass that sold us this truck over the weekend didn't include the jack and tools (nor the manual for that matter).

She pulled over at a gas station and all the tires are at 32. Safety-wise I'm not concerned, but if there's a way to make the problem go away on the road, I'd like to find it.

After reading online it seems this happens fairly often with these cars. I did paint the wheels two days ago but surely that can't be the cause. Did DT likely do something wrong? What's the next step here besides dropping that spare to check its air?

Its more than likely the Spare Tire is low, many people fail to check them regularly.

Ask your wire to turn the car off and then on and watch the instrument cluster and confirm the following:

-Does the light blink on and off for a minute? If Yes, then Dealer Tire may have damaged a sensor If No, then its more than likely the spare tire.

There is always the 10 minute mod to bypass the TPMS so you don't have to worry about it ever again.

That is a no brainer. Thank you. As one of the posters in that thread said, I have been checking my own air pressure for 3 decades without a lightbulb telling me when it was time.

Interesstingly, my TPMS light just came on. On the way to the parts store to get a solder block, I decided to stop by the gas station to check the pressure in my tires (ncluding the spare) and one was 10 lbs less on pressure than the others. I filled it back up and the light went out. I guess if it ain't broke, I won't fix it. :happy:

Now as to why a fairly new tire lost pressure is a mystery I need to solve.

So you can check your tire pressure when going 60MPH+ on the beltway. WOW you're good! :lightsaber:

I know this little light seems to bother a lot of folks being how its so bright & really in your sight line & all . But I guarantee the wife ain't checking that tire pressure . I was glad to have it last wk when I had a piece of my powdercoat come off in between the seal of tire & wheel very slow leak , I would have not spotted it if light didn't give me the heads up !!

I'll pass on anything that doesn't give actual PSI ratings. That would be a really useful feature.

Wife now says the light turned itself off. She didn't add any air so not sure what to make of that.

Maybe it's warmer where she is now.

If the spare is near the trigger psi, then a change in temperature could cause it. That means it could come on again if/when it cools off.
