Tire Pressure?

The sticker on the inside door panel says to have the front tires at 26psi and the rear tires at 35psi why is that?

1990 sr5 4wd with manufacturer recommended tires (not sure what the size is i'd have to go out on my break)

The manufacturer takes in consideration things like weight distribution, front and rear suspension performance and tire size.

If you drive on well paved roads and want better fuel economy, you can increase the pressure. If your roads are terrible and you need more comfort, decrease the pressure.


I asked you the year because I thought it was a 4th Generation 4Runner, which recommends the same tire pressure on all four tires.

Are you still running the same make/model tires that came with your 4Runner? These recommendations were based on a specific tire that was shipping with that 4Runner. 26 psi is a little low for most tires that run at highway speeds, because at that lower pressure heat can build up in the sidewall and tread area and could potentially separate the tread. I check with the sidewall of the tire and follow those recommendations first.

yeah i figured as much, the lugs on the tires that are on it now are much smaller than the stock tires.

I got it off my dad, he's like you can have it, it handles like shit. Well duh, all the tires were at 21psi when i got it haha.

So I tried running it at toyota recommended pressure for a while, definitely an improvement, but now that I've got them all at 35-36 it's like driving a car with a lift kit.
