Tire Prices...

I need to get rid of my current tires as they are not family friendly. I don't have a lot to spend, around $600 tops. Kind of hard to find 265/75/16's for that price, but who knows. I'm wondering where people bought their tires from and some good quality cheaper brands. No P rated tires and they must be an all terrain tread.

Sucks you're getting rid of those tires. You got a pretty good deal and I really like those Coopers. What about TreadWrights? I understand the concern about retreads but I think those are quality retreads.
 
As I already mentioned ... get the Grabber AT2s, 265x75x16 which is a 31.5" tire.

They are very good quality and quiet. $675 for a set of 4 and you can take them to the mountains in the snow.

In my sig picture I am running Grabber AT2 in the front and BFG AT/S in the rear because I switched to the Grabbers.

Just save up some more and get some good tires. You'll spend more in the long run if you get cheap tires and have to replace them sooner.
 
Are BFG AT/S not "good tires" anymore .... ?


I only recently switched 2 tires over to the Grabbers and they have pretty good reviews.

CJ, yeah I love the look of my STT's, but they are too loud for a DD and with an 11 month old in the car. Also they are E and a bit rough. I forgot about Treadwrights and I probably will go with them. Hopefully I can make some money off my STT's as I just sold my Michelins for $200 today.

Brian, I like the Generals, but they are E rated in 265/75 and I really don't want E. Plus I can get a brand new set of BFG AT in E for $600, but I'm trying to stay away from that load range.

ALBPM, I may save up some more, but I kind of want to get rid of the tires sooner than later.

Also, should I go for load C or D? I hear people say the D is perfect for our 4runners. I ran C's on my 95 and liked them.

Yokohama Geolanders are good tires, I have heard good things about the Kumho's as well. Falken Wild Peaks have been getting good reviews( not the High Country)

What tires are you taking off? Maybe you could sell( depending on miles maybe recoup some money)

I am running Nitto Terra Grapplers in "D" range and very happy with that weight rating. Found my 285
s on that site for $170 each while everyone else is still around 200

Get a D. Its perfect IMO.

I would search craigslist. A lot of people will get a certain size, then very soon after want a different brand or even a different size. And THAT is when you can score a deal on some next to new tires.

I wouldnt get a retread. I know some people swear by them, and for a dedicated trail rig I might. But if I had an 11 month old in the car, no way am I taking my chances with those tires.
 
I'm taking off my Cooper Discoverer STT's 265/75/16's with 45%. I'm pretty sure I can get $250 for them which will recoup all my costs in them so far.
 
I think Nitto TG's in that size are around $150 a tire, but i am loving my Firestone Destination LE's by far the best tire i have ever driven in rain, the rear end wont let go on me, they are very quiet, i don't know how well they do offroad but i would assume fairly similar to most other AT/All Season tire. Tire Rack has the 32's of them for $130-$150 per tire which is right in your range, and i am told they last atleast 50k miles.
 
keep checking craigslist, i got my bighorns 285 70 17 e rated tire(i know you dont want an e rated tire) for like $280 mounted and balanced, they where used and i got a screaming deal, they had like 80% tread left. so there are good deals that pop up if you keep your eyes open
 
For 265's get the "D" range the stiffer sidewalls give you much better control
than the "C" weight. They won't ride harsh if not over inflated.

I ran "D" weight 265's for just over 81,000 miles and replaced them with "E" weight 285's..."E" was my only option for the tires I wanted.
 
Yeah I've been searching craigslist, but nothing has come up thats worth it. I will keep checking in the mean time.

John, my GF has those tires and they are great, but not off road ready.

I don't know much about the ratings because I have never had any problems. We both live in CA and drive the same roads. I don't tow often and those tires have proved great in mud, sand, snow and 4x4 parks.​

Here in San Diego they cost $850 - $900 installed with taxes. The Grabbers are about 20% cheaper which is why I mentioned them. If you can get the BFG AT/S instead then of course go with them.

I don't do a ton of off-roading, but I'm finding the Yokohama Geolander's (AT) to be a very good tire. When I went to go have them mounted, the dude there asked where I got them. He couldn't believe they cost that little. He had them on an old truck and said they were the best tires he ever had. Got mine off TireRack.com for like $115/tire (265/70/16) and shipping was about $50 total. They've got them in your size right now for $131/tire, but I'm not sure what the shipping cost would be.

Brian, John I'm okay with the hijack because it was Johnny Cash.

I have heard before 265 E rated tires are too stiff for our vehicles. Hepar has the BFG E's and he says it his one regret with his build. It is a local connection that can get the E rated BFG's for $600 I just wish they were D's and I would have already bought them. I may just go with the Yoko's and have Discount Tire or a local shop price match them. They aren't the most aggressive tread, but that is fine for now.
 
Treadwrights will be well within your price range. I've got 18,000 miles on my guard dogs, and they are wearing very well. $427 shipped to my door.
