Tire Question: KM3 vs Baja Legend MTZ

Hello everyone!

I’ll be getting new tires soon (315/75/16) and I’ve narrowed it down to a short list.

Just curious if anyone has experience with both Mickey Thompson Baja Legend MTZ and BFGoodrich KM3 mud tires?

I don’t daily drive my 4Runner, but I do go on big wheeling/camping trips that often include a few thousand miles on highways/pavement.

Generally speaking, I’d prefer to maximize off-road capability over road comfort, etc.

I’ll be running the Rubicon trail this summer, if that helps establish the kind of wheeling I like to do. I also live in a region where there is plenty of thick, sticky mud on the trails that most years never fully dries out.

KM3 was at the top of my list, but Baja Legend MTZ has a few features that have me questioning:

- Siping (vs KM3 no siping)
- Lighter (69 lbs vs KM3 73 lbs)
- Deeper tread depth (21” vs KM3 18”)

No experience with the mickeys, I think those are pretty new actually? But I loved my KM3’s when I had 33’s, now I have stt pro’s in 35’s. The one thing I’ll say about the KM3’s is they chunked pretty easily from what I remember. Hit me up when you hit the rubicon, definitely on my list of trails! Last note I’ll add is watch tinkers adventure on YouTube about the 35 skinny’s, made me wish I had went skinny’s. With proper alignment I rub on the frame with my 12.5’s so I think it would’ve eliminated that issue.

Yeah, the Baja Legend MTZ is pretty new but it’s basically just an updated Baja MTZ P3 tire (now discontinued).

I’ll check out the skinny size. Thanks for the recommendation.
