Choosing 285's - LT load range C or Standard Load? Tire Recommendation

I am looking at 285's and have narrowed it down to 2 tires


Toyo Open Country AT3 load range c - 55lbs
Open Country A/T III | The All-Terrain Tires for Trucks, SUVs and CUVs | Toyo Tires


Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT standard load range- 48lbs
Mickey Thompson | Baja Boss A/T



I have a 2021 TRD Pro and not sure if these will fit on stock suspension. Since they do a bumper and fender trim on them at port. Otherwise I am prepared and ready to add the eibach pro springs for 1.4" front lift and 1" rear.


My question is are stanard load tires like the MT baja boss strong enough for off-roading/camping/overland? Keeping in mind I may have to air down and live on the westcoast (california trails, utah trails, arizona trails)

What bumper & fender trim do they do at the port? I've seen no differences between a Pro and my ORP (when it was stock) other than increased front clearance due to the Fox struts & Pro springs (making it about 1in taller in front).

As far as 285s on stock height, you're going to rub, more than likely at full lock and when articulating. So, if you're mall crawling then you won't have too much issue. Before I trimmed a bit and got rid of mud flaps, my 285s rubbed at full lock while articulating... and mine is lifted 3in and a BMC.

As far as load rating, if you're not going to be doing rock crawling on the regular, go with C load. I'm not a huge fan of airing down and hitting the trails on SL rated tires. If you are going to be doing regular rock crawling or your trails have a lot of sharp rocks, then I'd go with the E load for the extra security of a thicker sidewall.

I have 20 pro with the 21 suspension running 285/70 duratracs. Yes you will have some minor rub at full lock....I was able to get 95% of that fixed with a heat gun and reforming liner. No bmc was needed. I just installed the Eibach lift springs and gained 2 inches up front and 1 in the rear. After I installed slim bumper and winch (130ish lbs) I lost an inch up front, so a net gain of 1. anyways, no rubbing, and no bmc.....all mods have been done with heat gun.

It seems like the C range is a happy medium between tires in 285.
I have heard pretty good things about the Toyo open country at3, I guess the only downside is they are not as aggressive looking as some other tires.


They cut the inside of the front bumper a bit and push the fender liner forward a bit on the TRD Pro models.

This is good to hear. Honestly I would probably only run it on stock suspension for a bit until I receive the Eibach pro springs and can get them installed probably about a week or 2 max after the tires.
