Tire Question

I hope that I will be buying a 2005 Limited 4WD V-8 4-Runner on Friday. What suggestions does anyone have about what tires I should try to get. What choices could I have a the dealership with regard to tires? I expect to buy from Beaman Toyota, a very large Toyota dealership in Nashville. In Tennessee, we get a moderate amount of snow and ice. Obviously, it is nothing compared to the really cold states.

The tires that come stock are Dunlop Grandtrek AT20's (?, not fully sure on model, but I think that's right), Bridgestone Dueler H/T's, and Michelin CrossTerrains. From my experience, I'd recommend the Michelin's, then the Bridgestones. There are a few threads on this forum about this also.

Thanks alpha

I've been trying to read the threads and quickly increase my tire knowledge before Friday. I have learned so much from this forum during the last several months. However, my tire knowledge is poor. Can I just tell the dealership that I want Michelins?

No need to have two separate threads in different places. The mods will probably merge them together.

Anyways, you should be able to. Some salesman might be stingy about it, but most dealerships will recognize that losing a sale over swapping tires with another 4runner on the lot is not desirable. But for best results, try to find another 4runner on the lot that is similarly equipped except for the different tires, and ask to swap the tires with that one.

No guarantees, as for each dealership is different, but ask. And if you don't get what you want, you could always go to a different dealership.

Best of luck with the purchase!
