Tire recommendation for an 03 4Runner 2WD?

Hi all,
I have 40k miles on my 03 4Runner 2WD V8 and the original tires are due to be replaced soon. Mine are 265-70R16.

Costco has the Michelin X-Radial LT for $150 each, while the BFGoodRich Trail T/A all season is $118 each. However, they only have Michelon is stock.
My question is: is it worth it to get Michelin instead of BFG or should I order the BFG from Costco? (I had good experience with the BFG All Terrain on my previous full size Bronco but it has been a while)

Mine is a 2-wheel drive model.

I looked at X-radial LT. They are only sold in stores like Costco and Sams. Here is what Thai said about them in a thread I started:

So, if you want heavy duty tires for off roading they may be great. Since I have a 2WD just like you do, I decided to go with the Michelin Cross Terrians. My opinion is look for another tire than the Michelin X-Radial LT.

I just checked, I have to order from Costco as they don't have them. The Michelin cross terrain is $163 a piece but at Costco that includes mounting/balancing/road hazard. I guess I will have to order them then...

I am not telling you not to buy the BFGoodRich Trail T/A. And I am not telling you to buy the Cross Terrians. I just don't feel the X-Radial LT's are what you need.

I bought the Cross Terrians because of how I drive, i.e. mostly on the road. If you look at Michelin's web site they do poorly in the mud. That being said I like the Cross Terrians for what they are and what they do.

have you looked at the bridgestone h/l alenza's i put a set on my 02 and love it. i first put revos on, but switched them out for a highway tire. the revos were a bit noiser on the runner than the set of revos i have on my truck. they're supposedly a "street version" of the revos. very grippy, smooth and quiet. worth a look if you dont venture off the pavement

If you won't tell him then I will. Mich CT is hands down the best SUV tire for daily driving.

Since my 4Runner is 2wd, I don't need the tires to handle rocks/mud etc... and I'm in California so they don't need to handle snow either. I just want a smooth, quiet ride with good tire wear. I'm going to get the Cross Terrain as you all are happy with it.

Just another thought...

Try out the tires first by heading to your Toy dealer. Ask to take a 4Runner with Mich CT's for a test drive because you are thinking of buying them. Ask them to quote and after you get their price see if they will match Costco. At least you might get to try them out.

I think you made a good pick. Great ride and my cross terrians have lots of tread after 40,000 miles. But, hey, you didn't hear that from me.:D :D

Let me know if they are quieter for you. That was my first impression of them.
 
Thanks again. The stock tires that came with my 03 4Runner were Dunlop. I'll be very happy if the Michelin Cross Terrain is a lot quieter than Dunlop.

Thanks for all your recommendations, I just had Costco installed 4 Michelin Cross Terrain at $160 each.

Now my last question is: are the tire pressure supposed to be the same as my previous Dunlop (32 psi) or are they required different air pressure?

Costco puts in what is recommended by the manufacter and refuses to put anyting different, which is 29 psi for my 2001. I put them up to 32 psi. I have read other members going higher with the psi with their Cross Terrians.
 
Yes, it's definitely quieter than the original Dunlop and feel less bumpier too. It's only a few miles from Costco back to my home on local streets so I don't know how they are on the freeway at high speed yet.
What air pressure do you run on yours?
