tire recommendations 2000 sr5

Hello, I just got a 2000 sr5 2wd and I need some new tires....I don't really plan on doing any off-roading.... just looking for something economically priced that will last a while not looking to spend 200 per tire I'd like to stay around 150 if possible.....I have heard michelin has some good ones.....the current tires are 265 70 16's so I guess I will stick with that.....What do you guys think?

your not gonna touch a michelin for $150 in a 265 70 16, sorry its just not gonna happen.

i know a lot of guys on here buy tires online, but i wouldnt, just because they have a price on a set of tires on line doesnt mean it will actually be cheaper in the long run... dont forget you have to pay shipping, and tires are not light, then you will have to pay someone to mount and balance them(and they will charge you for new valve stems too probably), then if you ever have an issue with one of the tires, like a broken cord/belt you have to pay to send it back and pay the shipping on the new one back to you, or if you get a nail you will have to pay to get it plugged/patched. where as when you buy a tire from a chain retail store like americas tire/discount tire, or costco ect you will get all of that stuff included in the price of the tire.

id go with the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S, a lot of guys on here run them and really like them, and they seam to do very well on the road in dry and wet as well as gravel and dirt roads.

Check out discounttiredirect.com for your tires. They offer free shipping, no sales tax, and you can have them mounted for free at any Discount Tire. I've been using them for years and have had nothing but positive experiences. If you do have a problem, you can take it to a Discount location and they'll take care of it there.

As for tires, you can go up to a 265 75 16 without lift and no other modifications. Popular choices are...

i didnt mean to say he cant find tires around $150/ea, but that he wasnt gonna find a set of michelins for $150/ea... unless he finds a killer sale

I have a set of Yokohama Geolander AT/S and plan to purchase a new set in about 20k miles. That will bring me to about 55k on them. I always replace certain items "early", aka before they get really bad and can blow out or break at anytime and that includes tires and windshield wipers. It's just a comfort thing with me.
 
anyone know why when I search for tires it comes up as a 15".... is that the factory tire size meaning the wheels have been replaced? would that be cheaper? pros and cons?

A lot of 4Runners had 16" wheels installed when they got to the country. I'm pretty sure everyone's says 15" wheel. Stay with the 16", that's what yours has had since it was purchased. The tires may be a tad cheaper, but you'd need new wheels if you went down to 15"s.
 
If you want to stick with the same size and an H/T tire I would go with the Yokohama HTS. Price should never be an issue with America's/Discount tire co. They always price match even online pricing such as tire rack. Your maintenance is freed for life. And right now with these Yokohama tires u get a $60 rebate. I put them on my sisters jeep grand Cherokee (2wd) she got about 74,000 miles out of them.
 
My Hankook Dynapro's are awesome. I bought 'em for around 150 a tire and they're all-terrains.

Just go to discount tire and type in that size. Every tire they make in that size will pop up from least expensive to most expensive. Scroll through the tires until you hit your budget.

Even if it is 2wd

it's nice to have a tad larger tire 265/75/16 with a more aggressive tread for acclimate weather and driving conditions even if you dont think youll ever encounter any.

Most of the tires people have mentioned here are available in a cheaper P=passenger, 2 ply version instead of the 4 to 6 ply LT= Light Truck versions. THe Hankook P rated 265/75/16 is easily available for less then $150 per tire. Just do your research.

Does your 2wd have the limited slip or e-locker rear dif?
