it's nice to have a tad larger tire 265/75/16 with a more aggressive tread for acclimate weather and driving conditions even if you dont think youll ever encounter any.
Most of the tires people have mentioned here are available in a cheaper P=passenger, 2 ply version instead of the 4 to 6 ply LT= Light Truck versions. THe Hankook P rated 265/75/16 is easily available for less then $150 per tire. Just do your research.
Does your 2wd have the limited slip or e-locker rear dif?
4runners never came with a limited slip. all 4runners are open diff if they do not have the e-locker. -the 5th gen runner is the only one i am unsure about, but even that, i dont think they have limited slip, pretty sure its an open diff as well.
and i would not go with a 265 75 16, but thats just me. the little bit of height and ground clearance gained wont be notable other than adding cost to the tires themselfs. you would stand a better gain by yes getting a slightly more open tread pattern like an A/T tire. -and yes id go with a P rated tire
