I'm a regular member on the Tacoma Forum with my '05 TRD Sport 4DLB.
Joined here to get info on my wife's 4Runner...
'04 RWD only living in PA about 55K miles
Michelin Cross Terrain 265/65/17

Time for new tires, want to stay with a quiet highway tire- no aggressive AT treads.

Suggestions?

Hands down - Michelin LTX M/S2!
Awesome ratings on Tirerack. Great Traction on most surfaces, quiet, warranty to 70K but will last longer.

That is correct. Hands down - Michelin LTX M/S 2 All season - 265/65R17. So far great performance through dry, wet, heavy rain, and light snow conditions.

Tire Rack reviews rated these the best all around. Yes, they are a bit more expensive than other tires of the same class but well worth the expense in the long run.

I bought mine new through Costco after price checking other vendors / other stores...even the dealer...decided to go through Costco when they had one of their tire sale coupons available. I ordered the tires online via Costco and had them delivered to the nearest store. The store notified me of their availability and I showed up the next day and had them mounted and balanced. The Costco experience was completely professional.

Certainly, there are other stores / vendors that might offer the same tire for a competitive price but after much research I felt Costco was the way to go.

Agree 100% Just put a set on my 5th gen last week and love them. My mother has a set of M/S2's on her 4th gen with 67k on the set and they still look new. Not the least expensive option but an option which you will be happy with for a very long time.

Well, I suppose what is good for the Taco is good for the 4Runner it sounds....

The MS2's on the Taco did great in the snow this past winter...

My only problem is we brought the 4Runner from Florida to PA and it is RWD, it is an '04 with only 55K miles and in Excellent Condition....We can't part with it right now with the economy so we'll use my truck when the goin' gets rough!

I'm waiting for pricing from the place where I got the MS2's for my Taco...looks like the MS2s and the Cross Terrain price out about the same....

Let me just chime in on the m/s2 bandwagon.

I had a set put on a few weeks ago - finally got rid of my dunflops with about 40K on them....

The Michelin MS2's are better than the duflops ever were...the truck has never ridden this smooth, never. We just took a 1300 mile drive to Cali last week and it was like a brand new truck.

Now, I know when you change tires - even if I had gone with Dunlops - there is going to be an improvement. But this is different, it's better than when I first drove it off the lot...

The tires are not meant for full-time snow. So if your in an area (Canada, ND, tahoe, CA) with snow and ice for a whole season then get snow tires as they are softer. If you are just visiting an area with snow the tire will be good enough. Meaning you can't just drive however you want just because it is rated one of the best in snow in its class. Remember a tire that is given a rating of 9 in snow for a highway tire will not even be as near as good to a snow tire given a rating of 5.

The M/S^2s are great. I have about 12k on them so far and love them. The snow traction is great. We got blasted this past winter here in NYC and these tires got me through HEAVY snow with the 4x4 on, but also had great control on snow packed roads in 2wd. I highly recommend them. Also, I think Michelin is offering a $70 rebate on the purchase of a set of 4 tires.

I saved a little money...bought BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A Tour.....They ride and handle well on the ride home on highway....

Went with the Michelin's (M/S 2) to replace the Dunlops -- had only 3k on them and got $50/tire for some cost relief. Still and expensive tire -- I have had good luck with Michelin in the past and hopefully the M/S 2 is as good or better than the Cross Terrains..

I run Michelin M/S2's in 265/70/17 on my 04 4Runner.

They are great tires. Absolutey quiet and smooth. Before I put them on, I had terrible steering vibration at 50-65 MPH, but it went away with the new, balanced tires.

They aren't specifically designed as offroading tires, but they do well on trails and mild offroading. I'll see how they do on ice and snow this coming winter, as I live in the Sierra's. Though they don't have the snowflake designation, they were one of the top rated tires in winter conditions on Tirerack (where I bought them).

They may not be as aesthetically pleasing as an aggressive tire, but you can't beat its overall performance. I use my 4Runner for road trips, and commute seventy miles a day, so on-road performance was priority number 1.
