Tire rotating question. rotating spare.

I've been having the tires rotated and balanced by Toyota Dealerships (3 seperate ones because of moving in the last 2 years) and I just pulled my spare out to see that it hasn't been removed ever. The manual says to rotate the spare through the rotation. So, why wouldn't the TOYOTA service guys/gals do this?

Laziness :)

I rotate mine myself because I know that even if I expressly told them to do it they wouldn't

Proper rotation diagram is in the manual in case you were curious. I'd be hesitant to throw it into the rotation now as it probably is not to spec compared to the other tires and may cause harm since they are different diamters.

Because they're lazy. But they'll be happy to tell you that they'll do it for an additional fee and then not do it.

EDIT- Argh, too slow again!

I have been rotating my own tires for years and I NEVER rotated the spare tire through. There really is no point IMHO. Doing so doesn't slow the wear on the other tires because it would take 5 rotations to get all the tires to have a break and almost makes them unbalanced. I just rotate front to back and remove the spare once in a while to make sure it is in good shape. Your tires will last just as long if you only move around the 4 on the truck.
