Tire rotation recommendation/question

My 4runner has 2500 miles on it and i'm planning ahead for its 5k scheduled maintenance. My initial thought was to let the dealer rotate the tires, but I just purchased some tires from America's Tire Co and they stated that they would like to do all of the rotations. I personally don't see any harm or negative consequences in rotating them at the dealer (with its free scheduled maintenance), and also at America's Tire Co as recommended by them seeing that they probably will not notice that the dealer already rotated them, but maybe i'm overlooking something?

Any suggestions?

I don't think it really matters who rotates. But dealers have been known to over torque bolts/lugs, so then the vote would be tire shop.

Do you think it's possible to over torque by hand with the tire wrench? I tightened mine after 80 km after I had it in getting the tires balanced. They were all a little "loose" and I was able to torque each of them with a couple of strong pushes down.

Disagree... It's not just dealers. Last week, in an attempt to balance new Michelins on my 4R, two different tire stores broke a total of five lug bolts.

This, after stern warnings from me about weak bolts and hand-torqueing.

EDIT: Forgot to answer your question. Because of my bolt-breakage experience, I'll have all my tire rotation done by the dealer. That's where I want to be should this reoccur.

Yes, it is. Go to your nearest auto parts store or Sears and buy a torque wrench.

Agree with Philsey on this! I had the same thing happen at a non-dealer place...I actually watched the guy break it and he did not over-torque it. Do a search on this forum for the lug nut issue. There is a whole thread about it.
