Greetings, I'm looking for suggestions on replacing my 00' Limited 4x4's tires. I like the BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO and our local tire store carries them with free lifetime rotation. The OEM size is 265/ 70 R16. The vehicle is stock and I'm wondering if it would make sense to go with a slightly taller tire size (if that's possible) using the same, original aluminum wheel. I do take the vehicle off road on occasion to the desert and a little extra height would be handy.

I don't think you can run 275/75/16's without trimming. (also, do they make tires in that size??)
Anyway, 265/75/16's is what you want. In fact, most tires are cheaper in this size than the stock size. Since I'm mostly on-road and occasional off-road/snow, I went with Bridgestone REVO's. I have 17" rims, so 265/70/17 is what I went with, which is basically the same sizing as 265/75/16's. Gave me about an inch more of clearance. No rubbing issues, even at full lock. The on-road performance is great. No noise, great handling, great wet-traction, and from the consumer ratings, great treadlife.
BFG's are better off-road from what I hear, but they've got no tread warranty (REVO's have 50k) and worse treadlife than the REVO's. Another brand to consider is the Mich. LTX A/T. They wear even better than the REVO's, but I'm thinking you're sacrificing on and off road performance with a harder compound. I think REVO's have a good balance.

Of course I'll tout the Nittos for occasional off roading which are pretty equal to the BFGs off road and much better on road (by far in the wet) and about a couple hundred bucks a set cheaper. I've driven on a few sets of BFGs and for a DD I'll never go back to 'em. They do last a while but the tread gets very hard as the miles pile up which kills any on road performance. The Nittos probably won't wear quite as long but so far on high mileage Nittos the rubber is still quite pliable according to some owners. I've only got 11k and one winter on my Nittos but so far I'm very happy withn them. They've also been on 11 trail rides and they don't show it one bit.
The Revos are still better for on road handling and wear fro a daily driver and have the warranty which the Nittos and BFGs don't have but BFGs do have the look and that seems to be one of the overall buying factors since I see 'em on plenty of soccer mom SUVs that'll never leave the city;what a waste of a very good off road tire and $$$.
