tire sensors bad. Where to get new ones?

Longtime reader but this is my first post.

I just went to get 4 new tires for my 04 4Runner and was told 2 of the tire sensors are bad and need to be replaced.

Long story short I didn't get the tires yet and have been searching in vain on the net to find replacement sensors (other than full price at the dealer) before I get the new tires put on.

Couple of questions.

1. Part # reads: PA66-GF30. I can't find these anywhere. Anyone know where I can find them besides the dealer?

2. I've read other posts saying dealers charge an arm and a leg to get the new ID's entered into the computer because you need this and that.

What steps do I need to tell the dealer to do so I don't get ripped off and am prepared when I go in?

Sorry but some of these are not in numerical order because that's how Toyota named their file system.

The PDF's will provide you with a lot of information about how the tire pressure system works, where the sensors are located, how to install, etc.

I'm not sure where to buy parts.

Perhaps, but I've heard the line that "We (they) must do the identification because of liability in case I (you) give them the wrong number".

When you went to get the tires was this at the stealership or at a tire shop? Is your TPMS dash light blinking? This is the way the system gives an indication of a bad sensor either immediately or after 60 minutes of being in the ignition "On" mode. Do you have a blinking light? The other way to test the sensors is to drop the air pressure in each tire below ~25 psi, one at a time, to see if you can trigger the light Happens almost immediately after turning "On", then refill and move to the next tire, including the spare. This way you can also tell the shop which sensor to replace, if needed.

If you have a bad sensor and get it replaced at a shop (when you do the tires) record the new sensor ID #, take the old sensor with you and tell the stealer to reinitialize the system with the existing numbers except for the one you replaced. Then they have to "wake" the new sensor up. All of this will cost you for the time to use the scan tool but there is no liability BS here. The system will detect the new sensor with the right numbers, no matter who installs the tires.

Well the dealer has the sensors. $118 each. Expensive yes but I can 't find them anywhere online and I'm not sure if the shop can get them.

The shop I'm getting the tires from is $60 cheaper per tire then anywhere else so I'm definitely going there. (A friend of the family).

Toyota said they would install the tires there so I figured I'll get the sensors at the dealer as well unless someone knows a legitimate place online that has them.

Check Ebay. I picked up an extra set for my IS for about $100.

just wanted to post an update on how things went. All went well and the sensors were installed with my new tires for $54 total for everything.

I go to leave and the VSC lights are on. I pull back in to explain my problem to the woman helping me. She said it would cost me $90+ to fix that. I said no, it won't cost me anything the lights weren't on when I brought my truck in.

We were bickering back and forth when another rep went in back, got the hand held computer thing and took the time to re-calibrate my computer for me.

She left in a huff saying "He didn't buy the tires here, blah blah blah."

Nice to know at least someone at my dealership knows what customer service is.

Glad to hear things worked out for you.

So did the stealer replace the sensors under warrany or did you end up buying them? What is the sensor part # from your invoice?
