Tire Size on a 03'

What is the biggest tire size you can put on a 03 Spt. Ed without lifting it? Im lookin to get some new tires to make it look bigger, but since I have the X reas suspension I dont want to fool around with lifting it...any suggestions on what tire to get to maximize its look without lifting?

I disagree. REVO is not the best AT tire...it's the best AT tire for owners who don't take their SUVs off-road very often. REVO will last longer and perform better in rain.

For owners who do go off-road often, i believe that BFG AT KO tire is a better choice. BFG AT KO has triple sidewall to help protect it against puncture...it is also a LT-rated tire. REVO's sidewall is like a regular passenger tire.

Revos vs BFG AT

Being a former owner of BFG AT I can attest to their off-road worthiness. They will survive some serious rock-crawling, although they are not good for deep mud, they do survive almost any condition trail that you will encounter.

I can also say that these tires suck for on-road performance. The don't handle large volumes of water well at speed (very prone to hydroplaning) and because of the triple sidewall, ride very stiff (like a buckboard). Because of the tread blocks, they do well in snow and dry pavement, but are noisy on the street. Also due to the sidewall construction they are heavy (I believe these are 3-5 pounds heavier than the same size Revo).

If you want good street and light offroad (sand, dirt paths, no rock crawling) performance, stick with the Revos. I you want good off-road performance (sand, rocks, branches, no deep mud), and don't mind a little more noise on the street go for the BFG AT's. If you want serious off road performance go for the BFG MT's (go through anything, more street noise).

Get a tire for what you will be using it for most of the time.

Another choice...

Another option that I'm considering is the Michelin Cross Terrain in 16" or 17" (not sure what the biggest is to fit under the 4th Gen.) I'm also considering the older Michelin LTX-A/T (not M/S) that are only 16". All of these are for on-road, minor trail, not hard core off-road.
Question: How is the engine performance from those who have gone bigger?

Yes, BFG AT KO's are the only AT tires to have the "snowflake" symbol. I believe that this means that it can provide traction in severe winter conditions.

I had both REVOs and AT KO's. Yes, the KO's are heavier. However, i did not find them to be any noisier than REVOs. Rain performance and dry handling will favor REVOs of course. The AT KO's do lose much rain traction when they are worn down.

Overall, i love the look and off-road prowess of the AT KOs. NONE of the AT tires are good in deep mud.

KO's

Had both in my opinion, got longer wear out of the KO's and liked the look better personally, they have a more aggressive appearance, kinda matches the runner. Of course when my stocks go bad I might try out the new Nitto terra grapplers, heard good reviews on those.

Man, I hate this ... I want Revo's because most of the time I'm on pavement and in wet conditions, but when I go off-road, I like the idea of extra sidewall durability with the BFG AT KO. There are many nasty rocks in these parts.

I also like the thought of BFG thread suggested to be longer lasting than Revo. However, my main concern is BFG's rain performance (or hydroplaning) over Revo.

But surely BFG can't be that bad especially since pretty much everyone and their dog is riding on BFG around these parts. Could it be that Revo is a relatively newer tire and hasn't have the time to become the most popular? Are most BFG owners planning on switching when the time comes?

If you get the Revo's I would suggest the 265/65/17's, which is the OEM size. You will get more thread width, 3 lb's lighter per tire, and better handling. The 265/70/17 on a 4th generation 4 runner is a step in the wrong direction. Do some research and you will understand what I am talking about.

It's the wrong direction for some and the right for others. Some off-roaders see an increase of 0.5" of ground clearance to be well worth it's weight in gold!

My BFG AT KO is sure-footed in the rain. It is only a problem when the BFG wears down near it's wear bar. I believe that BFG AT KO is the best-made AT tire on the market for SUVs...but, then i am a bit bias.

I understand but the problem is I don't think these tires in the "P" rating that you get in the 17" size are what you would want to take off road. Now if you were getting the BFG AT/KO's or a set of Dunlop M55's that had a strong side wall then I would say the trade off might be worth it but these are just "P" rated and I would stay with the OEM size. I use to have a Landcruiser FZJ80 so ride comfort was not that important with solid axles, I ran the BFG AT/KO's and really liked them they wore like iron and would go anywhere.

What about Goodyear ATS? I had a set of 31's on my old truck and then went up to 33's and BFG AT ko's. I like the Goodyears better but they cost way much in 33's. When I dump these stock tires I think I will get some in one size larger than stock and get the Goodyears. I am surprized they are not more popular. I would see them as a cross between the Revos and the KO's. Anyone running ATS's

The ATS were noisy, according to a few owners i talked to. If you really want a good AT tire, then i would look at Michelin LTX A/T.
