Tire size?

I have some 15x8 5 star polished wheels w/31x10.5's on the runner. I am going to have to get tires in a month or so. I want to keep those wheels but get a little better gas mileage. What is the next tires size thats smaller?

How exactly do you plan on getting better gas mileage with smaller tires? Sure, it'll be a little easier to accelerate with smaller tires, but to go the same speed the wheels (and thus tranny and engine) will be spinning faster.

As far as tire size, I believe 29" tires are the next step down from 31.5" tires. I have 29" tires on my 4Runner, but next year I'm getting bigger ones.

It should say on the sticker on you door, the stock tire size and how much air pressure they should have

Well I meant getting something just a bit shorter but lighter, so I could accelerate better. Maybe some 30x9.50's? Or some 235/75/15's?

I would think that taller, skinnier tires would give you better mileage.

Taller tires will decrease your RPM's at any given speed and skinny tires will decrese the rolling resistance.

I don't think that skinny tires are an option with your rims though.

Ya I agree, that is what I was thinking myself. It seems like the 31x10.5's are a bit bulky and with gas prices how they are now, plus having to rev the 4cyl a bit harder I want to save gas. I'll just have to ck whats a safe size to put on those rims. Maybe a 9"wide tire?

I bought my 4runner with 30x9's on it and it really didn't make any noticable difference in gas mileage and acceleration when i went to 31 x 10.5.
