Probably not unless your 4runner came with 15's from the factory. Look for a 16 or another 17" tire. Plus the 12.5" wide tire will rub against UCA unless you have wheel spacers.

The 285/70-17 is ~32.71" tall x ~11.22" wide.

A few issues to think about.
Can a 15" wheel fit over your brakes?
If you have a small enough backspacing they will not rub the upper control arms.
Too much BS and the tire will have a larger arc when turning and will cause more rubbing toward the back side of the front wheel wells.
That wide of a tire may come in contact with the back wheel well lips when stuffed.

With that said, I have a friend that runs 305/70-16 (~32.81x~12.01x16) on 16x8 wheels. He has ~4" lift in front and 6.5" in back and a 1.5" body lift. He had ~1/8" between the tire and the stock UCA. The rears stuff just fine. The fronts rubbed the back of the wheel wells. Ha did have to cut, pound and tub a little.

Thanks guys....this 4runner stuff is new to me. I'm use to jeeps. Think I'm going with a 2-2.5" lift and 32s on 16s. Just my thought. Any opinions on that.

For 32s on 16s, you'll want to get 265/75/16s. You don't need any lift for those though. They will also look small if you're used to 285s now. If I were you, I'd just stick with the 285/70/17s you have now (33x11s). The will rub a lot less than a 33x12.50 also.

you can run 33"s but dont get 12.5"s, i have them and they rub even with "spacers", rims compensate, they have been a hug pain in my @SS. 10.5"s will work better, i have to so lots of cutting and hammering to get in to work and they still rub. not worth the pain

and i have a 2.5" lift with no running board and they rub
