Tire Suggestions

At 50,000 miles, the Bridgestone Dueler H/T D840s that came with my 4Runner from the factory are getting close to the wear bars. Looking to replace them before this winter. What tires would be best? Mostly highway driving with good snow and rain traction. No offroading at all.

I've driven over 250k 4runner miles. In my opinion the Michelin LTX M/S is the best value for someone how mainly drives highway and lives where it snows. Yes you'll pay more upfront, but you should add to the value equation mileage, safety, and comfort of the ride. I have gotten 80k miles, feel safe due to technology, and have witnessed a much better ride. Nothing like new sneakers. Also make sure they are the right size and filled to Toyota recommendations.

Revo's are one of the more popular choices for the T4R. Expect a minor hit on the MPG do to the A/T tread design. Also most who've run the Revo prefer them at 38-40psi. The P-rated Revos have a 44psi max rather than the more traditional 35psi max.

If you run at 38-40psi the ride will be quiet, it'll handle good, mpg will suffer by .5 or less and the wet road performance will be second to none. Most who run them in the snow like them. Falls has them and is one of many in snow country who likes them.

I found the REVOs to be fantastice - and like you, I do no serious off-roading. I did not get the REVO 2 - so I am not sure what is new about them. What CJ says is true - 38psi is probably best.

I have had them a year or so now and I could not be happier. I am partial to Bridgestone, but overall they have never disappointed.

Check out the Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61. Affordable, and comes with a severe weather rating. Around 130/ea.

I just put on a set of the Firestone Destination ATs on my 2005 Xterra and am impressed with them also. They are very quiet and ride and handle well. Do not know yet about the snow traction but they have been given good reviews in that aspect.

As for the OP, if you never go offroad, you might be better served by a dedicated highway tire. I have the Michelin Cross Terrains and really like them. There really isn't any subsitiute for a proper snow/winter tire in winter.

The Destinations are 265 75 R 16 LT range C. I do drive off road and was not comfortable with a P rated tire for that purpose. I actually would have gone with the Revos instead of the Destinations but the only LT rated tire for this size in the Revos is an E range and was not keen on that stiff of riding tire. The Revos on the 4runner are the stock P265 65 R 17.

The Destinations are quieter than the Revos. They also feel lighter in steering and handling. It has been raining here recently and I would say the wet handling feels just as good between the Revos and the Desti's.

One thing I did notice if it matters is the Revos are designed with a rim protector edge while the Destinations do not have one.

As I said I have yet to try the Destinations in the snow but the Revos have always been amazing.

I've had the Revos.... Cooper ATR's... Destination AT's... as well as a few HT tires and recently put the REVO2's on my 4Runner (have about 1500 on them now).

They're honestly all good tires and I wouldn't have a problem with any.
IMO there's not enough difference to worry about. They all wear decent (don't know yet about the Revo2's)... they all are quiet enough (Revo2's are improved over the original and seem to be the best here... but only slightly over the destination AT followed by the Cooper Atr's & original Revos which are about the same - still a pretty quiet AT tire).... Traction is a toss up... I can't imagine a huge difference here.

I chose the Revo2's over the Destinations this time simply because they fit my eye better. The price was the same after the rebate on the Revo2's.

btw... my wifes SUV came with Fortera's but we haven't had it long enough to review. But they seem like a decent tire up to this point.

I'm very happy with the Cooper ATR's that came on mine. Quiet on the road, great in the wet and dry and the tread looks like it will handle winter well.

I've ran the Michelin LTX's, Bridgestone REVO's, Firestone Destination LT's and Firestone Destination AT's over the years and on 3 different generation 4Runners. If I was driving mostly highway, felt confident with my skills and had 4WD in my back pocket, I'd go back to the Destination LT's. IMO, they were a notch or 2 below the REVO's in deep snow but equal in wet and dry traction. And I always found the Firestone's substantially cheaper than the others. If money was no object, probably the LTX's or the REVO 2's.

if the money isnt a problem i would go with michelin cross terrains. thats what came on my 4runner which lasted about 55k and i still have one under as my spare although it has been plugged. great tire!

Stay away from the Revos! I dont know how the Revo 2s will do but the Revo UNI-T AQ II have sucked when it comes to tread life. I only have 32000 mi on this set and they only have another 5000 mi left in them. The last set of Revos I had ran for more than 50,000 mi and this set has been maintained in similar fashion. I used to be the biggest endorser of Revos but now Im just looking for a another tire.

GoodYear Duratrac's A/T. Have been great for me in the colorado snow/Ice and rain. I took a little hit on MPG but well worth the look and performance! :roadkill:
