Tire White lettering repainting

Hi,

I was wondering if any one knows how to keep your white letter tires looking OK.
Over time I know the white letters eventually will loose their color, but what if you rubbed one of the tires with a side walk and now the letters are almost black. My Runners Tires look a bit uneven with this. I know this is just for aesthetics but has any one tried anything to keep their tires looking OK?

Try some Westley's Bleche White. It cleans the white letters as well as anything else. Available at just about any auto parts dept.

I don't have any white lettering now, but when I did before i used Ajax or Clorox (powder) and a stiff bristle brush. They always looked new. As far as wearing the white off when you hit a curb, I think there is some paint pens at Autozone or some other shops that are for touching up lettering. You might want to search online first.

If you are rubbing up against concrete curbs then you're scrubbing off the white rubber letters -- and probably putting scrapes in the rim edges of your alloy wheels. I cringe everytime my wife asks to use the Runner for that reason --- she parks by feel of the curb! Used to be able to control her by buying standard shift cars - no more!

Actually my wheels are ok, It was just once I backed up in a very high curb. I wish the runner had tilting mirrors when backing up.

I tried the dupli color and it works great. It's how I painted it that sucks, it looks good from a distance but when you are near you could see the missed lines. My wife calls it a kindergarden coloring

does anyone know where you can get a stencil how race/track cars have their letters?

I had a friend who was a construction foreman who had one of his laborers paint the letters on his tires. I asked him why he didn't just use Ajax and he couldn't believe that was all they needed. Been doing that for years. You might even find that it takes the curb scuff marks out. I think the white rubber goes pretty deep.

Get some of the 2" round mirrors that swivel to put on each of your mirrors. They work great to see lines and curbs when parking. Also show you cars next to you that you might otherwise miss (hit) when changing lanes. Be sure to get the ones that swivel, they cost a couple dollars more than the ones that don't.

The easiest way is with some degreaser like purple power and a wire brush.. they will look brand new.... see mine.. thats what I do and these tires are about a year and a half old.

Thanks for the tip on the mirrors, I would have been great if Toyota had the reverse tilting mirrors option.

One more thing with the mirrors. Most people I see with them put them on the outer lower corner of the OEM mirrors. I put them on the inner lower corner since that's basically useless mirror area anyway, usually only seeing your own vehicle in that area. Putting them on the outer corner takes up usable viewing area on the OEM mirrors. That minor change in location has no effect on what you see with the little 2" mirrors. I said to get the ones that "swivel" in my previous post, but "rotate" is probably a better word to describe it. I have mine rotated down and out.
