Tires: AT or MT?

I need some new shoes, and I'm going 265/75/16.

The wifey wants a rugged look, and really likes MT's, but she's not going to be doing any off-roading (daily driver). I love the current look (AT's) but wouldn't mind a more rugged one.

Is there an MT that's not rediculously loud on road? Am i being a stupid noob? thx in advance.

I don't know of any MT's that are quiet. Maybe some Terragrapplers for the rugged look? They're still somewhat loud, though.

I'd just stick with LTX A/T's or REVO's if you're not going off road...or maybe even A/S's...

If there is no off roading being done, go with the AT. You could also go with something that is aggressive but not a mud terrain like the Goodyear MT/R.

I have 267/75R16 TrXus MT and they aren't too noisy. I'm close to replacing them and they only have 30K miles. Just another thing to consider.

The Nittos do quiet down once you get some miles on them and they are nicely priced and have very good on pavement manners in the wet or the dry.

I've got over 20k on mine and don't regret buying them one bit.

M/Ts are a bit much for just a pavement pounder and will just be a hassle and uncomfortable on longer trips.

I'm going to go check out the Nittos and Revo's this weekend, along w/ the BFG's.

Do the Nittos come w/ white lettering? I can't tell so far.

I think a good tire for you would be the BFG All Terrain....it's more aggressive than what you have now, but not as aggressive as an MT that would be loud on the street...:biggrin2:

No,the Nittos just have different styles of lettering on each side.

BFGs are a poor choice for a pavement pounder period and they cost $200 more than the Nittos out the door. BFGs are great and durable off road but on-road the Nittos are much better by my experiences.

I'm running Mastercraft Courser CT's 265/75 16's on mine.They look really aggressive on my 4Runner,but the noise minimal.I don't have any pics of them installed,but here's the website:

I put Cooper Discoverer STs on my truck. Absolutely amazing tire...very aggressive looking. If you want the MT you can always get the STT.

Have you looked at the goodyear wrangler Mt/rs? they are pretty pricey but they are about between a mt and an at but the have huge agressive sidewalls. look at the toyo open country M/t also, they have a computer designed tread for low noise on the street

I have run BGF MT's on a daily driver and never found them to be too loud at all. Not fantastic on very wet pavement, but I just drove accordingly.
I've heard many good things about Cooper tires, they seem to be earning a rep for lasting along time plus they look good.
Goodyear MT/R and the Nitto are a good choices too.

But hey, if you really want that ultra aggressive look , go for some Super Swamper Thornbirds!!! Just dont ever drive anywhere with them....
