Tires: Bridgestone vs. BFG

I have a '99 Limited, and I am planning on buying new tires soon. I live in the city, but i like to get off road as much as possible. I also deal with a lot of snow in NE Ohio.

Right now I am torn between the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's and the BFG All-Terrain T/A KO's. What do you guys think?

Also, should I go with 265/70/16 or 265/75/16?

ive had my bfg's for almost a year, and have no complaints. ive done about everything from regular city driving (mostly that), road trips, snow, and trails with them and i really love them. i got the 265 75 16's and they do rub a bit on full lock left turns. but you can trim the plastic splash guard a little bit, maybe a 2" by 2" square and it takes care of that problem.
 
I'm a big BFG AT fan; had a set on my Cherokee XJ and have them now on my 97 SR5.

They wear tremendously well- especially for an aggressive tire- and the traction on dirt & snow is far beyond what "stock" tires tend to provide. Plus, they are rated to handle a little more weight than stock P-rated tires, so they up your capacity a little bit.

The tradeoff? They are a little noiser than than the P-rated Goodyears it came with, and the ride is noticeably firmer. Still, a 4Runner is a truck; go with a Highlander with P-tires if comfort is what you're after!

IMO, a great upgrade for any 4Runner is the Bilstein/BFG AT combo if you're going to use it as a truck; if you just get groceries with it & it doesn't snow where you are, they are probably overkill.
 
Give a set of Yokohama Geolandars AT+IIIs a look;if you off road at least a little but mostly see pavement the Yoks are pretty comparable to the BFGs but they handle dry and wet pavement much better then the BFGs (I've had both on Toyotas in the last 5 years),they have a mileage warranty and they cost almost $200 less than a set of BFG KOs.
I've driven an '98 Runner with a set of BFGs in driving rain and they struggled to clear water at barely 55mph while the set of Yoks on my '97 were much stable and resisted hydroplaning much better than the BFGs which I also had on a '95 Toy PU.


I also like Nitto TerraGrapplers which I'm trying to decide between the Yoks or the Nittos.
 
Go BFG

You won't regret it.

Anytime I can get 60,000 miles out of a tire, I'm going to buy them again.

To put that in perspective, the way I drive, my stock tires on my T100 only lasted about 22,000.

I just took advantage of the Revo's $75 mail in rebate. I was all set to buy the BFG's but have heard only one complaint about them....... so, so wet traction. There is nothing that scares me more than hydroplaining. I am on road about 90% of the time but have heard that the Revo's can definitly hold their own off road as well. I have a stock 3rd gen and the 265/75/16's just fit! Here are some pix!

Got to admint

The MTR's almost convince me to buy them on looks alone, such a sexy tire:) I want more than 30,000 miles out of mine though, and I drive aggressive.

also, jvangun, i love your new revo's. i, too, am in the same predicament between the revos and the bfg's. i am leaning more towards the revo's tho. the main reasons are for the better on road handing (im hardly ever off road, but i want an aggressive looking tire) and the fact that i read some stories about guys with T4R's puttin on the BFG's and warping rotors because the tire is so much heavier.

how do you like your new revo's? do they drive nice? road noise?

could you post higher res pics of side views (close up and farther away) of your new tires? pretty please... i want to see what they look like, as i am going to get new tires this month!

Alpine0000, they drive great so far. Only about 50 miles on them though. I look everywhere when I am driving down the street looking for some little off road path. They have close to zero road noise and it rained pretty hard on Saturday and did not seem to slip when accelerating from a dead stop. Yes, the distance shot does not give the best angle. I won't be able to get one up until later this week as I am taking it tomorrow night for the recall and its already getting dark here.
 
Lee, I love those tires. A friend of mine has them on his TJ Wrangler. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm ready for those yet!
 
well, theyre pretty loud but theyre among the toughest tires that perform really well all around: rocks, sand, dirt, mud, water....

theyre not quite a mud tire, not an a/t... nice balance :)
 
does anybody know what it means on tirerack (on the revo page) where it says Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo with UNI-T AQ II?

what the heck is UNI-T AQII??
 
I suggest the yokohama geolandar AT+II I just got em. Took them in the mud 2 days ago. Gripped great in soft clay. The tread cleaned out great at trail speeds. Also doesn't rub at all
