My new-to-me 06 V8 came with a new set of Cooper Discoverer ATR's and I have to say I REALLY like them. Very quiet on road, great in the rain and dry and by the looks of the tread and sipping I expect good snow performance as well.
I've heard great things about the Michelin LTX tires as well if you can find/afford them.

I've been using ContiCross Contact LX's on both my 99 and 04 4runners. I got them from TownFair Tire in New England. They price match internet prices so I got them to match TreaDepot.com because they were cheaper than tirerack.com. Plus Conti always has some rebate, I got a free tom tom and a $75 prepaid visa. Performance from these tires are a lot better than the stock Dunflops !

Replaced the OEM Duelers almost a year ago with the Continentals. Highly rated on TireRack's owner reviews. I spent the extra couple of bucks to get the "H" speed rated version for the (theoretical?) extra heat stability margin for interstate cruising. Seem to be wearing well so far although unsprung weight does go up over OEM options about 7 pounds/tire IIRC. And Conti does alwasy seem to be running a promo of some sort...picked up a Navigon GPS for my trouble.

I have had the Continental cross contact LXs(265/65/17s) (30.6") on my 04 since last November. They have been great in the rain and the little bit of snow we had here in Raleigh, 1 day this past winter, (Grew up in MI, so I do know what real snow is, This was not real snow) But I will not buy them again, I have had balance issues (steering wheel vibration 55-65MPH),Had them road force balanced but the vibration came back in a month, and they seem to flat spot over a weekend if not driven. I had high hopes for these tires since they were ranked fairly well on tirerack.com but I have been disappointed overall. I paid about $730 OTD for them from discount tire.
I ordered 265/70/17(31.7") Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2s for my 08. Also put on a Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift this past weekend and have Spidertrax Wheel spacers on the way. They are about $830 OTD from Discount, but there is a $100 visa rebate card right now. So just about the same price as the Continentals for a hopefully better overall tire. Almost anything is better than the stock Dunflops.
If you see Canada Snow even for a week a year I would go with a A/T type tire. I would not buy the Continentals if I still lived in MI.

I second the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. It is rated as the best wet handling All Terrain on the market. They come with a 50,000 mile guarantee. I have a set of 265/70/R17's on both my 4Runner Sport and Tundra 4WD.
I had the Pirelli Scorpion ATR 19" on my Range Rover Sport and they were a GREAT tire. Amazing wear, outstanding on the beach and in the deep snow and had Great on road manners. Very quiet on the road and pretty good on hard cornering. I replaced to stock continental sport contact with these and they were worth every penny. I have the Michelin Cross Terrain on my 08 runner now and so far they have also been great on the beach and outstanding last winter in the snow. If your going to be spending time in Canada an ATR may be the way to go. Good luck
