I bought a 93 4runner recently with some old mud tires which are super noisy and I want to put either a relatively quiet all-terrain tire or all-season tires for the smaller p225/75 r15 size (instead of the 31x10.5-15). I'm looking for really good traction on ice (I live in Colorado) while pretty quiet. I've read on tirerack.com the reviews and the best rated tires are the Firestone Destination A/T followed by the Firestone Destination LE 2 (all season) in that order. Any feedback on these tires or other recommended tires?
I will be taking the vehicle off road in the summer up some 4wd roads here in Colorado a handful of times to get to hiking (14ers) and fishing spots at high altitude and then I go skiing in the winter. I'm not into off road for the sake of off-roading, only to get me to where I want to go so I don't have to have all-terrain tires unless they fit my objectives above.
I can get a deal on Good Year Wranglers - out the door for less than $400 but they don't get a very good consumer rating, particularly on ice and snow.
Any recommendations?
