Tires For Me

yo all, ass summer is coming to an end and my stock dunflops are too im trying to decide on which tires to buy. I live by the wisconsin/illinios border and do get good amounts of snow, also rain and hot weather, i drive 75 miles roundtrip everyday to work on the interstatedoing 80 ish. The only time i ever "off-road" is on some light trails for camping.

im debating between Goodyear Wranglers SilentArmor and Bridgestone Revos. Which ones would be better for me?

The goodyear wranglers silent armor seems to fit you well. It has the snowflake/mountain symbol so it should be well in the snow. I haven't owned any of these tires so everything is just based on everything i've been reading the past few weeks about tires. I just got some bfg at ko for my t4r.
 
My driving style sounds identical to yours (even driving distances/mph) I have the BFG AT K/Os on my Jeep and they have never let me down, they have been through every single type of driving condition and I've always been left with nothing but a smile.

I'll most likley be going to these when the 4Runner needs new shoes...just thought I'd throw another option into the soup for ya, LOL. (A real help I'm sure :bash: )

Sorry, but I don't have any 1st hand experience with Silent Armors or the Revos...tirerack gives the following for 'noise' ratings 1-10:

BFG: 7.9
Revo: 8.6
Silent Arm: 9.2

Quite frankly I never even hear my 32" BFGs...then again a Wrangler is a very noisy vehicle to drive...so take it FWIW.
 
As far as street tires BFGs are not in the league of the GYs or the Revos;the BFGs are more suited for real off roading since their pavement manners are subpar compared to the other two by far.

The Revos are a good choice concerining price and performance and they have a mileage warranty which is great for a DD.
 
I have Revos and they are nice if your not into off roading or lt.off roading, ride and handle great. I think Revos are a great suited aggressive all-season tire . Here's my Revo opinion.......

Wet/rain/dry/ride quality = excellent tire.
Snow = decent but not overly impressed.
Off road dry = decent & handle well.
muddy/gooey off road = marginal at best.

Go for the 265/70's , they look soooooo much better and probably cheaper than the 265/65's. Fill up wheel well's much nicer and add a little bit of clearance and nicer stance.

Can't answer for the GY Silent Armor, Thai has a good insite on these tire's,maybe he will chime in.

My personal favorite are BFG AT , best all around AT tire IMO. Also the best looking IMO weather you do white letters in or out. They have a squared off shoulder & look stout, I've had many sets and never let me down.

You might want to look into Nitto Terra Grapplers too, kind of a cross between BFG & Revos but a much better dollar value.

The Goodyear Silent Armor look more like all-season tires than AT tires from the pics I've seen , unless I'm looking at the wrong ones.
 
Yea well since pretty much nobody has had GY Wranglers SA I think I might go with REVO's or Nitto TG, but my main concern is the up-sizing part as what will it do?
 
What are your concerns ?

You could do a search for bigger tires and that might give you some insite. I've never heard of any problems or had any myself.

One thing though you should consider changing your spare too. Then everything will be equal size and you wont run into driveline issues with having a smaller tire and 3 larger ones if you have a flat.

I can answer for the Silent Armors. After having had them for about 12,000 miles now, I have say that I have come to the conclusion that they are overrated. I know my initial review was good, but I probably won't buy them again.

My main reason is that they hydroplane way too easily for my taste. It finally rained here last week and at 40 mph I felt like I was piloting a boat. Absolutely no steering response at all and there wasn't even that much water on the road. Ridiculous.

And for the supposed extra layer of rubber for additional cushioning, I don't really feel it. It seems that they are a bit harsher riding than the Michelins. And gas mileage has gone down at least 2 mpg.

Just my 2 cents. YMMV.

Its extremely minimal , I think I've read 2% .

One thing I've tested which I don't know if it means anything, but I got to a flat road and set the cruise and held it at 60 mph,then reset the comp. on the truck to average speed and drove about 7-8 miles and the comp showed 60 mph for my average speed. I don't know if that means anything but I was just playing arounf with it out of bordum. Maybe others can chime in about my little test, this woould also lead me to beleive that the comp. is not really off like others have claimed. I've also checked my milage against my comp. and find that to be pretty accurate as well.
 
Thanks for your findings with the GY, It's now down to the TerraGrapplers and the Revos, both in 265/70/17. Anybody have a comparison between the two?
