Tires with stiff Sidewalls

Hey Guys!

I need your help. I tow a 21 foot Forest River travel trailer about once a month. It weighs about 4,400 pounds. Which sidewall would be stiffer for towing, the Revos or Geo-landers? This would help with "sway control". Since I only tow once a month, I don't really think I want to go with any LT tires. So your help is appreciated!

I have D load range TerraGrapplers and they are pretty stiff and compared to my Geolandars I had on my '97 they have much less tire squirm. To be fair the Yoks handled dry pavement a little better and off road they conform to rocks quite well.

Also, the problem is as well that you have that bit** size of 265/65/17. It's an '05 Sport. I can't change sizes due to the sway control on the weight-distributing hitch that is already adjusted for the tire size. A little difference won't matter. But changing tire sizes altogether would!

Can't have it both ways.

P-rated tires are all 4 ply. C and D load tires have stronger sidewalls but they are all LT rated as well. YOu have to go to 265/70/17 to get some selection. 265/65/17 will lock you in to very few tires and all will be B load P rated tires.

265/70/17 does not have veyr broad range of selection. I think a C load is the best balance. BFG A/T KO has it in C LT. So does Cooper AT/R and AT. Revo and Toyo Open Country have either 4 ply P rated B load, or jumps to E load 10 ply, way too stiff and rough for a Runner.

Perhaps a swap to 16" wheels from Toyota will aloow you to get into 265/75/16. They are almost exactly the same diameter and width and gets you a lot more choices and lower cost.

You mean 265/70-16.

I agree with everything else .

4400lbs isn't all that much for towing that you would worry about tires.

Going to 265/70-17 is a 3% increase in diameter.

Going to a 16" wheel may be a problem with the brake rotors touching. REVOs are supposed to come out with a 265/70/17 LT tire that has the same overall diameter as the stock size (265/65/17) that will be E rated, with a 2 ply sidewall. They are also almost a half inch wider (tread width) then the regular 70s. They may be just the ticket!
