I asked a Toyota dealer service advisor what he thought the effect of going to an 265-70-17 would be on my 06 4R Sport and he said I would get 5 mpg less in mileage!! I was incredulous. Some of you may know whether there is any change in mileage but I know it can't be 5 mpg - perhaps it would change the dash readout with slightly different size tire along with the speedo.

In any case, thanks to the comments here, I decided to remain with the same size tire as is on the truck - 265-65-70. Can change when they wear out if an advantage becomes clear to me. I don't want the speedometer to be off, etc. I will stay with the P series tire in the Revo. I don't carry heavy loads and only tow a light trailer occassionally.

The independent tire dealer, Big-O, had a piece of software to compare tire sizes and how much they would affect the speedometer. The 70 series was 3.4% (the actual speed would be that much less than indicated) which he said was not recommended but a 255-70-17 would only affect it by 1.5%. Interesting for those of you looking to change sizes.

I think the percentage of mileage loss in the end will be negligible and you'll have 3.4% less miles when you sell it than it actually has. :

Depend's on tread pattern too , If you get a hard core mud tire I can see it happening. Rolling resistance to is a factor. I have 70 Revo's and did'nt notice any milage decrease. I'm extremly happy with my MPG and the 70's.

Some of the idiot's at the tire store's really don't have clue of what they are talking about.

I had the Runner in last weekend for my free tire rotate at the tire store.I had it all cleaned up and shiney. Tire dressing was on , the mgr. of the store come's out and tells me if I keep doing that it will dry rot my tire's in a year and need replacing , I just laughed and said thank's for the tip.

Roling resistance is the thing that I always want more information on. I really don't want to cut mpg, even slightly. Consumer Reports sad the RR of the Revos was "poor", which is not surprising considering they're AT tires. I've absolutely no idea how they compare mpg-wise to the stock Dunflops, however. Some folks say no difference, others say lower mpg.

If you're using a petroleum based protectant he may have a point.
