saw this today in walmart and was thinking it might be worth getting for the price. i know its probably a cheap sub, but for what i want is just a little more bass while i'm listening to rap, nothing to beat down the block with.

do you guys think it would be worth getting? or should i wait and get a bigger system?

I would say wait and put your money into something of some quality. Not only will it sound better, but it will last longer. If you are only looking for a little more bump than you can get into some good stuff for fairly cheap thanks to this whole internet thingy. Just speaking from experience.

How much is it? If it's really cheap just buy it. When it says 700 watts that is not RMS. I would say the RMS is around 300 if that much.

Actually RMS would be 247. Only 106 on the sub.

There you go. :). How do you find this out?

To the OP, many people run over 100 RMS to their speakers alone. So if that sub is only getting 106 it is really not going to provide very much bass.

i think the thing as only 100 dollars if i remember correctly.

so this is a no go on the buying of this i suppose?

To calculate RMS you take half of max and multiply it by .707. So in this case it would be half of 700, or 350 * .707= 247.45.
And it said 300 for the sub so 150*.707= 106.05.

Most of the good amps and subs advertise the RMS values. The cheap ones show peak because the numbers are so much bigger.

OP- I would definitely pass on this one.

I learned something new today.

I would probably pass on this too. It makes no sense to buy a 5 channel amp if your only going to use one channel. That amp is terrible too.

If you are looking for a little extra bump without spending a ton, I've got a JL Audio E1200 amp laying around I would be willing to get rid of. Hooked up to a JL Audio 12W3 actually sounds pretty good. My wife had that setup in her car before someone decided to walk off with the sub. She decided she wanted more power, so that's why I'm not using it. Just a suggestion.

Oh yeah, I generally charge for lessons Clemson, so don't get used to me dropping knowledge like that too often. :D
