Never posted accident pictures til now. Mainly because I wanted to make sure it was all settled and it is now. It still hurts me to see my former rig like this. They hauled it away a month after the accident. Took me about that long to sort through all the parts I wanted to swap off the rig.

FJ Cruiser 1 step / sealant

I know some folks will say its a waste to spend on a nice detail job for a trail rig but I wanted a good baseline from where I can keep up with maintenance for paint. There's also the argument that white doesn't show changes as well but I can say it does.

I had the guy debadge in the rear as I was either going to leave it blank or put on black emblems.

I got these off eBay. Not really sure if they're real or not because they're in generic plastic bags without any Toyota part numbers. Look good enough though.

Here is a before and after. I might roll around with it blank for a little while at least.

After the first section of the hood was done, the iceberg white some how became whiter than it was before. I wanted ceramic coating but I knew the rig would be sitting outside so I didn't want to spend 3x the base price to get ceramic coating put on. Luckily I did not because a short 30 min rain storm came in right after he finished putting on the Meguiar's Fast Finish. Still looked great in the drizzle though.

Also took the pups for their first ride in the FJ since I bought it back in June. I wanted to be sure the interior was cleaned out. I had it shampooed and deep cleaned back in July and this guy did a light cleaning after doing the paint on it. My jack russell dachshund loves to look out the window for some reason. He does that the whole time. My great dane mix always lays down.

5th gen wheel install

A while back I bought these black wheels intending on using only the tires for my FJ but turns out the wheels fit Toyota hubs. I put my 265s on them and put them on the lady friend's rig. Turned out pretty nice. Basically like a "overland" setup. Just need a leveling kit to complete the look. It's a 2wd sr5 so no real off roading setup will be done.

Figured I'd give some context to the posts. Sorry for all the photo bombardment. I was trying to organize my other thread and used this one for the initial posting.

Sucks about the 4runner but the FJ looks awesome, rear locker is a plus for sure!

Yeah it does mate. I still miss that v8 torque and growl for sure. FJ is great to have but its no substitute.

I'll continue to reply to this thread on things that might be relevant to 4th gen mods as I continue with my FJ build.

Thanks to [MENTION=171043]kingofthehill[/MENTION] I bought a positive terminal cover from a 5th gen to replace my positive cover. Part number is 82821-60270 and costs around $10-15 depending on where you source it from. Also bought a negative terminal cover to "match". It was only $3 dollars on eBay but took about 3 weeks to get here.

I got an aFe intake and they used to make TRD intakes pre-2010 before TRD decided to just reuse the OEM box with a drop in filter / intake tube. If I knew about it I would have passed on the volant setup for the aFe.

I do have to say that the plastic is nice but it doesn't feel like the price the intake retails at. I didn't pay retail but I did get a brand new one.

This gasket for the "cold air" access is pretty stout. Took me about 30 minutes to get it onto the intake box.

Nothing special here. Just the final engine bay pics for now.

The TRD cover I got from a guy that used to custom make them on TacomaWorld. He stopped producing them unfortunately. Maybe a cease and desist after 5+ years of making them. I wanted the clear window variant he made prior the the powder coated aluminized version, but he ran out of them so I settled for this version. It's a nice look over the aFe cover and makes it look more OEM+.

Finally programmed the key fob after having it in my possession for 3 months...lol. Weird part during programming was that it remote started the car. Really weird.

Weird thing is that my car started up remotely during the programming process but I couldn't replicate it again. Maybe I'll get a second key fob to test it out.

Did you ever find out any more on this situation? Because flip key and remote start are both things that I am interested in.

Many things have gone down since the last update to this build thread. I bought the FJ. Bought a 7th gen Celica GTS in 2021. Then I got married in 2022. Wife brought a 5th gen into the fold. Then in 2023 I had a midlife crisis and bought a 200 series to replace the FJ cruiser. Long story short, I some how went back to looking at 3rd and 4th gen 4runners again. I guess my first love was always the 4Runner despite the dream being a Land Cruiser. I never did a build thread for the 200 though just because I felt like it was the perfect rig out of the box. All I did was replace the wheels. I came to the conclusion I wanted a rig I would wheel and that it needed to be smaller than a full size build. The 200 series isn't going anywhere. I still have to get rid of the FJ cruiser. I failed to convince the wife that the Land Cruiser was the cooler car. She still thinks her 5th gen is sportier than the 200 series. I guess this officially makes a new chapter in my 4Runner ownership, the 4th one to grace the stable. Here's a shot of the fleet prior to my new acquisition. Build thread is incoming too...I have so many left over parts from both my old 3rd gens I have alot of DIY days to do now...

I went back to a 3rd gen. If I didn't already have the 200 series I would have just lumped it all together into another 4th gen. I found quite a few decent 4th gens in the past month too. Some really low mileage in the low 100k range. But I decided I really wanted the mechanical / smaller nature of the 3rd gen so thats that.

I haven't driven the 05' Tundra since I bought my 19' a week ago, but I grabbed something from inside the truck and it felt like an antique lol. It had some pluses though, it was small and maneuverable, and I didn't care if I got a door ding or even totaled haha. 4Runner was driven on longer road trips or daily if my Tundra was getting wrenched on but the 19' is so much quieter and better for road trips.

Had to Make an account. Loved this build, pretty sure i saw it in some of the 4th gen FB groups. loved it so much i just picked up a White 2006 Limited V8 with 106k on it! might have to copy ya a little lol
