I got to borrow my friends LR3 this weekend, and although it was a nice ride, the engine performs poorly and throws CEL when you fill it with anything less than 93. In the owners manual, it specifically states that filling it with less than 93 octane will cause pinging and pre-ignition problems. Guess when you pay that much for a vehicle, spending the extra amount on 93 octane is just expected.

My 4Runner runs as good, if not better, than the LR3 and I run 87 octane.

Turbo or supercharged cars have to have premium due to their nature of high cylinder pressures and you can't cheat on the octane. I run 85 in mine when the manual states 87 but it also has to do with our altitude.
