To Buy Or Not: Solar Octane

Have the chance to buy a 2023 TRD Pro 4Runner in Solar Octane. I'm skeptical for a few reasons. It's hard to swallow the fact that the 4Runner is so old although I get why it is a great vehicle. Interest rates make the loan higher. It's at MSRP but I'm curious if others are seeing this vehicle at under MSRP.

I'm not sure I'm gonna like the new 4Runner and I'm guessing it will be in high demand and hard to get.

Toyota will **** up the new one with Auto Start Stop or some shit and these dinosaurs will be even more desirable.

Get you a 2023 but make sure Solar Octane isn’t this year’s Lime Rush. That was an embarrassment.

Yep, blue is my favorite. But my wife's car is blue and blue isn't available in the Pro.

I've seen it in person, it's a great color, much better than the mountain dew green from last year.

Only you know your financial situation, but yes, rising loan rates will make an arguably overpriced vehicle even more expensive, and the days of selling these used for over MSRP are probably over. No need to overextend yourself on a depreciating asset if you don't need to. New vehicles are nice, not having a car payment is better.

That said, I think the concerns over the next gen are valid, especially if it ends up not being made in Japan.

While kicking around some options for my next vehicle I again started thinking about getting another 4Runner (this is going to be my 4th 5th gen). This very well may be the final year for this generation and while it is dated in design, it is proven and bulletproof. I figure this will be the last chance to buy the Japanese made icon before they replace the bombproof V6 with a high strung turbo-4/mild hybrid and start churning them out in Mexico. Give me simple, reliable, and proven over the newest “it” technology.

I live in Colorado and 4Runners are still VERY hard to get (at least the higher trim levels and at MSRP). Most dealers have long wait lists and no guarantee on being able to deliver. I happened to contact a dealer about ordering a TRD ORP and he mentioned that someone had backed out of a TRD Pro less than a hour before that had just landed at the docks in CA. It happened to be in Solar with almost no BS tacked on extras so I snagged it immediately. I had basically given up on snagging a Pro this year….

I happened to get lucky in 21 and snagged a TRD Pro Tundra in Lunar Rock. I absolutely loved that truck but made the mistake in selling it. Still wish I had it cuz the new Tundra is a disaster. I foresee the 4Runner being the same and the new one is gonna have some serious growing pains with a much higher starting price to boot.

Can’t wait to build out another 4Runner and I plan to hold onto this a new while.

You should definitely jump on it…but I’m definitely biased.
