to repaint an '04 or not?

$1600 for roof, spoiler and hood (horizontal surfaces). Last year, quality work, SF Bay Area prices.

So, are you saying you can get a quality paint job for? And more importantly can anyone get it?
That sounds good. It's only the top surfaces that are oxidized.

You have to realize I bought a beautiful 2600 sqft house for $128k, with nearly 2 acres of land. This home in Vegas or NorCal would run upwards of $450k. Cost of living in the southeastern US is much MUCH lower than nearly anywhere else in the USA. It would absolutely be worth driving cross country and spending a grand on fuel to save 7k on a paint job. Just because our cost of living is lower doesn't mean that we don't have very professional painters in our region able and willing to paint. 10k is highway robbery, even if it took 10 full days to prep and paint a vehicle (in my area)

Don't forget California has some thicker rules about paint and VOC's. They can't purchase much of the paint used in other parts of the country. I don't doubt the low prices Porqupine82 is quoting in TN.
OP I'm pretty happy with the $950 paint job I got at Maaco in October. The same franchise once painted my mothers metallic gray Accord and I sold it to my neighbors son. He kept it another seven or so years and it still looked fine. The clear coat they applied didn't peel. The factory clear coat had peeled which led to the paint job. With Maaco if you make sure to strip the old wax and take off emblems yourself they do a decent job. We took off lights, mirrors and bumpers in their parking lot. Your truck is not a collectable classic so I'd not be paying $3k. I'd rather use Maaco than drive what your truck looks like right now.
eace:For the record I was agreeing with you. Read my first post in this thread were I suggested a paint job should be around $1800 for an exterior repaint.

Ok cool haha... I misunderstood completely. But if anyone wants a paint job, I can recommend around 10 to 15 local companies that do top notch work for WELL UNDER 10 grand. I don't think many people realize how ripped off they're really getting. West coast painters don't use unicorn dust in their paint, it's all supply and demand!
In the Boston Area you cant get your wheels done for less than 600 bucks never mind an exterior paint job!!!
I am seriously considering claiming insurance on some hail damage on my hood and roof, then have a separate claim for my front bumper that was nailed recently while street parking and then another separate claim on some bumps on my rear bumper to keep any cosmetic stuff under a grand!
I looked around and even with my 300 dollar deductible for each piece i'll be way under then local paint shop rates!

I know some people have had some luck at the vocational schools in the Boston area for repainting for just the cost of paint. Blue Hills and SSVT. Summer school is probably going on now...
I had a local bodyshop look at it today and he quoted $3500 to repaint the whole vehicle. That included removing trim and sanding and priming the top surfaces. No bodywork. He said he liked to let the primer dry good so he'd keep the car for 2-3 weeks before shooting the base coat and clear coat.
I think that as long as you are sure you want to keep the vehicle and the shop does good work (check yelp reviews), this seems reasonable to me. That's a lot of labor and the paint is not cheap. 2-3 weeks seems a bit over the top though, maybe they're just busy and fitting you around other jobs?
I know that before I had mine fixed, I hated how it looked and fixing the paint was well worth it to me. It was also cheap compared to a new 5th Gen, and I'd rather have the V8 and the full-time 4WD anyway.
+1 on that torquey V8. While I never thought the 4th Gen was really greatly styled, the "Squarey" 5th Gen is worse. The Nippon stylist should look to recent GM Tahoes for an example of clean, non gimmicky styling.
