To those with a Viper 791 alarm/remote start: some questions.

Can you change the siren arm/disarm chirp to a beep like the stock one?

Since it has a 2-way paging system that will alert me and my louisville slugger when the alarm is going off during the night, is there a way to control the volume of the siren? (Quiet neighborhood, my jeep's alarm could be heard miles away)

I'm getting a quote of $620 installed by Tweeter here in Mass. High? I've heard $500 in other areas of the country, but maybe the labor rate is higher here (like the cost of everything else)

How has the reliability been so far?

The unlimited lifetime warranty sold me on it.... it's worth the extra $150 bucks over competitor's systems with 1 yr labor warranties.

I don't care to get the rear window rolldown option.

Anything else I should know or options to ask about before I get it installed this month?

$500 was about the same I was quoted. Of course you're going to need to get the bypass module and lose one of your keys and that will drive up the cost a bit.

Also it sucks to only get one remote, then you can buy another one. cha ching.
 
I have the Python version. I paid about $560 installed from Circuit City. It's a nice alarm. I do miss being able to shut off my headlights with two taps of the doorlock button on the factory remote, but other than that I am very happy. I don't know about the quiet features, I want mine to scream bloody murder if it's going off!!

RL, which Python do you have ? I just called a CC store in the NYC area for a quote on the Python 990 and its $769 including tax, I thought that was a bit steep so I wanted to check with y'all first.

The guy said its actually $550 installed but that I'd need the module which costs extra and if I want keyless entry thats extra too so in total, $769.

Does this make sense ?
 
i have the compustar one with 3000 ft range and i have to say its goes redicously far lol.

I was lookin for a combo remote start \ alarm 2 months ago and ended up getting compustar for 600 in Conneticut at Action Auto Sound.

I think the compustar is better than the DEI stuff ........

just my opinion

i dont know how far the viper one goes
 
The 990 from Python has a 1 mile range, I have heard a lot about Compustar. I'd get one too if there was a reputable installer near me who offers a decent warranty. I wish Circuit City carried it.

It does to the CC installer.


I'm sure NYC prices are inflated compared to other parts of the country, but that seems high. Get quotes from other installers over the phone.

I have had mine for about a month now and love it...now that the cold weather hit I love being able to start it in the morning and from my office before heading home. The siren volume and which sounds it cycles through can be set, read through the manual that was posted.

Notes:

1. You will burn through AAA batteries in the remote...so keep a pack of them in the car..

2. Write down what the installer says for turning the alarm off if you do not have the remote. Combination of putting the key turning to ON hitting the valet button the number of times the installer sets it to 1-5 etc...I should really practice that to make sure I know it works :)

3. They programmed my Rear window to go up and down with the new remote. All thought it is not just hitting the AUX button. I have to hold two buttons on the remote to go down and then just one to go back up, but I hardly use this feature anyway..

4. I was about $550 installed with the extras needed, bypass ect.

5. MAKE SURE THEY PLUG YOUR CABIN TEMP SENSOR BACK IN!!!! the temperature sensor is plugged into the back of the panel they remove...There have been a couple of us who did not get this plugged back in and your HVAC Auto system will not work correctly...


6. Remember to turn the system, kill switch off when you are getting your Truck serviced. This disables the auto start feature.

7. I can't remember if the Hood Kill switch was included or an option but it keeps the autostart from working if the Hood is up. Safety of course...

Is it better to get one installed for you, then to get one you can install yourself?... Never had to do this before...

I've seen good reviews of the CompuStar alarm system. Did you install it yourself?
