Lots of things like this for me. Leaving a restaurant I left my wallet on the back bumper. Getting off the interstate exit, some guy comes knocking on my window with NY wallet in his hand. He could have taken it with the $250 that was in it. But he handed it to me. That k God he was a good guy, that money played a bill and oil change. This happened when I had my 98.
My mom left her wallet out at a gas station near my aunt and uncles. She had her hair dressers card in there, called my moms hairdresser and mailed it to her. Next time she went to get her hair done the hair dresser (Abigail) had my moms wallet on her table, waiting.
When I had my 03 Highlander I lost my keys. Was stranded 40 miles from home, in 17° weather, waiting for a friend to bring by my spare set k had at home. Turns out, I left my keys in the Walmart I was at (was originally so far away to see a long time friend I hadn't seen in a while.
Lost my keys to my 98 4Runner a few years ago and still have yet to be found.

its a simple ~ $20 from the local dealership to get a new key. you can overwrite the alarm and start the car fine without the clicker.

lost my wallet probably a year or two ago... still have yet to find it but I have all my cards and whatnot. where'd it go? lol

I was near Crested Butte CO some years back traveling and camping. I stopped on the side of the highway to take a short hike. When I got back my vehicle wouldn't start. I pulled out my fully loaded 3 drawer Craftsman toolbox and put it on the ground and started troubleshooting under the hood. No luck. I got back in and called my Grandmother to chat and after several minutes of talking I hit the key again. It started and I was so excited I got off of the phone and headed all the way back to Boulder. When I got there I realized my toolbox was still sitting on the side of the road. I had a lot of great sentimental tools in that box.:cry2:
Dude! I seriously feel your pain! When my '86 was stolen, I was pretty pissed in general, but when I remembered that there was a 5 piece fishing pole with reel in the glove box... well, that was painful. It being a gift from my great grandparents on the last visit I had there before he passed away. When the truck was found, 4 of the 5 pieces were still in the vehicle, but no reel. The remaining pieces are boxed up safe and sound, but I like to think my grandparents would be glad that I used that rod for nearly 20 years.

2 weeks ago we were at the mall picking up my wife's wedding dress and doing some last minute shopping for myself, i had recently had my truck at the shop getting some minor work done on it, so my key had been put on one of those flimsy key ring type things, well while we were walking around the mall the ring broke and the key fell off; lost in the abyss that is the alderwood mall, god dammit, i hate the mall, well anyways, i call AAA and tell them the case, i also tell them that it has a transponder in it and is made by texas instruments and told them to not even bother sending anyone if they can't help with those styles of locks and keys.....
well my wife is in tears wondering the mall trying to find the key as i'm sitting out side waiting for the locksmith guy to show up and when he finally comes he says he can;t do anything for me but pull the unit out and ship it to tx while my truck sits in the mall parking lots for 5-6 days till they reprogram the box, i said that was useless and why did they even bother to come out, i thought that might be the case and if so i would require a tow instead of a locksmith, you could have told me on the phone that was the case....areshole, well anyways he disappears as quickly as he showed up about that time i had a sneaking suspicion about where the key fell off and decided to go back there and have a look for myself as telling my wife where to look wasn't helping at all, so i walked back in the mall and asked the nearest cashier if she found a key as she was telling me no; rummaging through a drawer; she came across it! we had found the key!
the next day i spent $150 on 3 spare keys and heavy duty key rings.
