Agonized over closeout on 05 Sport vs new 06 Sport V-6. Went for the latter. Trading 04 Explorer-good riddance.First bad Ford I ever had. I like the new roof rack, the lights and the nerfs in place of running boards. Disappointed that option package on mine, that used to have the JBL 10 speaker has now been replaced by standard radio with in dash CD changer. Anybody know what the deal is on the $430 tow receiver option they're putting on the V6. Appears to be a Class IV weight distributing hitch?? I need 10 speakers more than I need a Class IV hitch.

Thanks for the pics. Identical to one I am getting. Had to choose between red and titanium. Decided red was too maroon not red besides as I should have remembered from "Used Cars" a red car is bad luck-my Explorer was red.

Yeah its wierd that the Tow package is now an option. I guess Toyota doesn't think enough people need to tow with the V6. They are probably right, but I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have...

Take pics of your new 2006! We don't have enough of those!

OK, so now it's mine. Dealer says it's the first 2006 they've sold. Observations in the first 50 miles
1. Difference in V8 and V6 a little more than expected.
2. Radio is worse than I thought. No depth and I keep turning it up w/o much effect. That's going to get some attention.
3. MPG gauge is saying 14-15 in town. Got on freeway and saw 18+. Underwhelming. What happened to 21-22. So far, worse than V8 Explorer I traded. Good thing I got the V6.
Overall, I am pleased and already trying to think of goodies to add. Think I'll be spending quite a bit of my time here.

Ok first off, yes indeed the stock radio needs attention. Was literally the first thing I did when I got mine... replaced the whole shebang, though you needn't go that extreme.

As for the gas mileage... I filled up with 91 the other day to test out its effectiveness, I got 15-16 mileage regardless of city or highway. When the tank when empty I put 87 as usual and am currently at 18.5 in city so it depends on the station you get your gas from... I think some tend to screw with the gas a little and others are fine. I get on average 18-19 mixed with my '05 V8. Oh and your gas mileage with go up a tad as you go through break-in I know mine did...

Don't judge anything about your 4Runner until you have at least 5K miles on it - and even more mileage is better! My '03 took that long to loosen up and settle down.

Right now, my V8 Limited 4WD 'Runner is generating much better numbers than your V6 - 21-22 hwy mpg. Have patience. It WILL get better as your 'Runner breaks in.

Yeah, I'm just on my first tank and realize it should get better. I have never been a fan of aftermarket radios no matter how good they are. I will be looking for a way to amplify stock unit and upgrade speakers. I note a lot of people seem to have added the Infinity basslink subwoofer. I did drive one of the '05s with the 10 speaker system and that really had some bass. I don't even see that radio in the owner's manual so I'm not sure it is available on the '06. Putting back-up mirrors(?) where the extra speakers would go does not seem a good trade. Not sure how they are supposed to help. Trying to see ANYTHING in a 5 inch mirror that's 8 feet away is a challenge.
