I had the clear bra (3M) on my now departed Infiniti G35, but I decided not to get it on my new 4runner. It's a great product, and it does help to keep the front of your vehicle chip free. It also makes cleaning the front bumper a snap, as bugs and tar don't stick to the bra. On the flip side, my previous 3M bra sustained some "chips" of it's own. It's not invincible to rock chips, so remember that you will have to deal with some issues. My primary reason for not getting the bra installed on my 4runner is that I've gotten pretty good with touch up paint and my porter cable orbital buffer. Also, as much as I love my 4runner, it's still my daily driver and not my "dream" car. I take it to the mountains, offroad, and use it as my sales vehicle. I don't mind a few dings here and there.
The decision to get the clear bra is subjective. It's going to cost anywhere from $400-$800 to have it installed depending on how much coverage you want. For me, I wanted to use that cash elsewhere. I've been in sales for 12 years, and if your decision to get the clear bra is because the detail shop or dealership says that it will enhance the resale value, they're full of it. If you want it because you're in love with your truck's appearance, then I say go for it. Just think it all the way through before you plop down the cash. A buffer and some touch up paint do a damn good job.
