Too much rust?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. I am looking at buying my first 4Runner and it has spent its life in the New England area. I live in Atlanta and don't have to worry about rust unless I'm buying one of course. Is this too much or is it normal? Thanks!

that doesn't look like it's anything to be concerned about to be honest. It's not new looking but after a year that's what any vehicle looks like in new england. Depending how old it is I think it says alot about how well the owner took care of it... I mean, if it's 8 years old, that looks great!

whatever you buy, do por-15 and spray some internal frame coating for the undercarriage

Coming from a Minnesotan that says a lot!

Well, my '04 spent the first 8 years in Mass before I bought it and although there is rust underneath, it is no where close to that. Keeping the salt washed off makes a huge difference.

Wash the salt off? Damn!

Seriously, I lived in MN for 25 years and bought an '87 Tercel Wagon new. I moved away in 2001 and every time the door was slammed there was a pound of rust under it.

It was my kids car by then. :tape:

Make it a weekend project to brush it down and POR 15 it but that might be a year long project. Won't be able to get every spot either!
