Drove two different 2005 V6 SR5s and one V8 Limited. To me not much difference in performance. Both engines seem to have enough get up and go.. still want to test the 2005 V8 before I make any decision. My big question is, after I drove the first V6 I came back to the dealer and said I thought something was wrong with the transmission. Whenever I took my foot off the gas it felt like the emergency brake was on. (No, I didn't have the E brake on) The truck seemed to slow down as if someone was lightly touching the brake. (No, it wasn't me) Then I drove a second V6 SR5 and it did the same thing. I then drove the 2004 V8 Limited and still the same thing. Is this normal on the 5 speed trans? Also, I was a little disappointed in the noise level of the V6. Not that the V8 was much better, but the V6, epecially when accelerating, is damn noisy. Does anyone know if the new V8 is a bit quieter and also does the transmission learn your driving habits? When I got back in my old Chevy, I drive along normal, let my foot off the gas pedal and the truck rolls along fine with no feeling of someone putting on the brakes. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. By the way, the seat felt fine, no shaking or ratteling as some have reported and also I drove on a highway at 75 to 80 mph, no vibration in steering wheel and no stink from the rearend. Welcome to the board. I can't give you any opinions on the V6 or brand new V8 because I never drove the new V8 and I only drove the V6 once. I think the V8 is pretty quiet for an SUV. The noise that annoys me most while driving is the wind noise. That is very pronounced when driving at highway speeds. The only time I hear the engine is when it warms up in the morning. Usually I can barely hear it running.
My truck does the same with the slowing down when you take your foot off the gas. It is the worst in first gear. I guess it just takes getting used to. My parents X5 does the same thing, but a lot more pronounced.

Mine (2004 Sports, 4WD) rolls just fine, I have to touch the brake even on slight slope to slow back down to speed limit. Something must of changed in 2005 year models. I love the V-6 it's newer engine compared to 4.7 V-8. Also 4.0 is all aluminum where V-8 has cast-iron block... Good luck.

Hm...I don't think the deccelerating sensation is normal, mine doesn't do it, but I have the 4-speed. It rolls along just fine. I do know what you're talking about though, I get that feeling when I'm driving my sister's V6 Accord.
Yup, the V6 is quite noisy when accelerating, but I find it quiets down a little once it's warmed up. I can't really comment on the V8, I only took an '03 on a short test drive, but it was quieter when accelerating and a bit smoother overall.

my v6 rolls along fine too. as for the engine noise.....sounds like a truck to me! 
i always warm it up before i put it in gear and go.

the deceleration you talk about is engine braking, it is designed to do it. my truck actually downshifts when taking your foot off the gas going down an incline. it takes alot to stop 4000 pounds of steel. as far as noise i have very little except my dauls. mark if you have windnoise you should check it, in my truck the windnoise is minimal......

haha, I actually like the sound of the V6 accelerating. The sound of a nice engine growling. Thats what engines are for!

The V8's in general seem quieter than the 6er's, but it might be that it's just a smoother sound. As for the 05 V8 being any quiter....doesn't seem like it. *Slighty* different sounding, but that's about it.
As for he truck slowing down when you let off the gas, umm isn't that what it's (and all other engines/trannies are) supposed to do to some extent
Living in a mountainous area, the more engine braking a truck has, the better.
Also, I sure HOPE it feels different than an old Chev, it's a brand new Toyota! That said, some vehicles just freewheel easier than others from different engine/tranny/4wd system/tire/wheel combinations, that's just the way it is.

Yes, especially on a hill. There is something about it in the owners manual. With my Borla's, I get a popping guggle, sounds really cool listening the the backpressure build as the engine breaking slows me down.
BTW....the ebrake is a horrible design. To this day, I still have to think to let it off. I prefer a handle, it becomes more natural.
