How are 17 inch standard tires small? Does any brand new vehicle come with huge super swamper tires?

Anywho, the Limited is a very nice vehicle and is far from ancient. I wish I could've afforded a $33,000 dollar vehicle like a standard SR5 4x4, I had to settle for a 2005 DC Tacoma PreRunner.

I guess being 22, in college and working part time is what makes that difference.

Sometimes no one can be pleased. I am happy with my truck. I could not walk away from the bed. Now, just to sell my 1992 Blazer and find a older 4Runner to make into a Trail Rig.

You can get 18s on the Lexus RX330. A nice comfortable crossover with all the bells and whistles. Maybe just the ticket for "husband".

I had my wife test drive one, but she actually liked the Pilot better! Actually I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be either. Go figure.

(Now she is looking at the Acura TL or Subaru Legacy GT Limited with the turbo 4 - I won't mind at all!)

Gromulus, thank you for being the only smart person to reply to my thread. I bet you are the only one that even has a 4 runner, all others just dream. I never even thought about the low roof line, very good point. This is a very good vehicle, I only suggested improvements. Like I said at over $43,000 dollars the items I mentioned should be on the vehicle. I will wait till the 06 model year, for the improvements. I am pretty sure toyota will do something to improve this 4runner even more'. If not I will purchase something else.

Well thanks husband. I have been frequenting this forum and others for some time now and find it to be fairly objective (as owner's forums go!) with some great advice. Moderators like Thai really know their subject matter and manage to balance their passion with objectivity.

I still think the 4Runner is an excellent SUV and better than just about anything else out there in it's market segment. It's all about what your needs are and what is important to you. I can tell you that quality and relaibility are at the top of my list when it comes to vehicles.

I need the heavy duty off road ability the 4runner offers. That is why I dont want the RX330. The GX model is about 13 thousand more than the limited 4 runner. As the owner of two Lexus vehicles I am not impressed enough to stay with the lexus line. They really are just glorified toyotas. Plus there are very few lexus dealerships and service can be a real hassle because of this. When a car is in the $43000 dollar plus range certain luxury items are to be expected. Memory driver seat is not really a luxury but is to be expected at this price tag

I like the 4Runner, I really do, however I refuse to buy one until they make some changes. I want the 8 cyl Limited 4x4 with the navigation system and all options, completely loaded. This is why I did not buy this year. At a msrp of about $43,960 you still can't get a memory adjustment for the drivers seat HID headlights are not even an option. The dash is so old fashioned, look at the new Avalon that is so state of the art. This vehicle needs a re desighn so bad. Rain sensing wipers not, Laser cruise control no. Who picks the colors? 90 yr old men with one foot in the grave and another on a bananna peal? Lets have some pretty vibrant colors. They should call it old man red not red salsa pearl. I would love bright red or bright yellow, im alive these muted colors have to go. I also would like TRD options factory installed. The tires, lets put some really big ones on it, this is a 4x4 if I wanted small tires I would buy another lexus.

As much as you think the vehicle needs a redesign, it won't be coming until 2007-2008 minimum. Until then, do not expect major changes, although some options might be added/subtracted based on popularity.

IF the vehicle had HID's, memory seats, rain sensing wipers, laser cruise, and trd accessories from the factory, it wouldn't cost $44K now would it? It's already a heck of a value if you've ever followed the pricing of previous-gen 4Runners....Since you brought up the Avalon, look at the price of those; it's more than a Runner and doesn't even have AWD or any off-road/towing capability!

Bigger tires? The Runner's stock tires are roughly 31". That is about as big of a stock tire as comes on any stock SUV/truck, including such heavy hardware as 3/4 and 1 ton domestic trucks. H2's come with nice BFG A/T's stock, but then again, the price is much higher.

Things like dash design and HVAC controls are subjective, mine seem to work just fine and find the dash and controls refreshingly different from many other vehicles. There could be more colour choices, but yellow and bright red have never sold well for Toyota, so I would not hold your breath......afterall, it's not a Durango (thank Christ).

As for "the rest of us" being 4Runner dreamers....I suggest do a little searching around this site before running your mouth, as most of us have posted pics of our rigs.

A lesson in tactfulness and social skills: try not to join a website and then begin to bash the one thing all of us love: our 4Runners. Feel free to offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, but since none of us know you at all, this is not the best way to go about being a useful member of this web community.

Just my humble opinion. I will go back to "dreaming" about the expensive truck that is apparently NOT sitting outside of my window right now . . . . .

HID headlights are not even available on the $50k GX470 or the $65k LX470. Toyota/Lexus feels that it is not safe to put those lights on such a high vehicle because it would blind other drivers. As for the laser cruise control, I can't think of a rugged SUV that even has that option available (GX, Land Cruiser, LX). You can't even get that on a "luxury" SUV like the X5 or Cayenne so that is a little far fetched. As for the memory seats and rain sensing wipers, it would be nice to have but that would not be a very smart decision on Toyota's part if they put that in the 4Runner, that would definitely take sales away from the GX470. Anyway, is it really that much trouble to control your wipers manually or to spend a few extra minutes setting the seat the way you like it?

Think about it, you are getting a lot for $43,000. How many vehicles come with dual auto climate control, navigation with touch screen and back up camera, rear seat audio with wireless headphones, homelink, heated seats, ride height, illuminated running boards, and a 115V outlet for that price (I know all of these features are not standard on the Limited but we are talking about a fully loaded one)? Some of these features are not even available on some higher end cars/SUV's. Even without a few small luxury features, the 4Runner is one amazing vehicle. I mean, we are still talking about one of the most capable SUV's on the market. As for colors, that is your personal preference. I know I would not want to be driving a bright red or bright yellow SUV around. Those colors are for sports cars.

I guess I should continue dreaming about the 4Runner that is sitting right outside IN my driveway.

Hell I'm glad none of that crap came on my runner. It's just more expensive stuff to break sooner or later (with a runner it will be later but I drive my vehicles until the wheels fall off of them). I hate automatic lights and wipers; they always come on when they aren't supposed to. Are you really to lazy to adjust the seat using one of the two hands the good Lord gave you? I hate bright pastel colored vehicles, especially 4x4's. They look gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). Vehicles always come from the factory with crappy tires. Just replace them. It's not hard.

It's a good thing the Limited doesn't come with the hood scoop. Then he would complain about having to drive with his head out the drivers side window because it obstructs the whole view. :rolleye2:

Seriously though, you either like the 4Runner or you don't. I don't see the point of coming on here and causing a ruckus because the Limited doesn't have the options you want. If they put all the exact same options on a Toyota that they do a Lexus, then there would be no point in even having a Lexus devision. I guess the Ford Taurus should have the same options as a Jag then too. C'mon man, think before you post. As far as colors go, buy a yellow Escape or Xterra. Or, buy a 4Runner and get it painted neon orange :repuke:.

I highly doubt the 4Runner will ever have all those options you mentioned. If it does, like someone else said, it would cost well over $50,000. Coming on here and insulting the vehicle that we all drive, and love to drive isn't going to add all those options onto the 4Runner. Oh wait a minute, let me go grab my magic wand...

I like my SR5 (with all it is apparently missing) just fine. But, if I had my choice, I would like to see Toyota make a real working version of the 4Runner. Take out all the fancy carpet and cloth interior and offer a no nonsense, who cares if you get a little mud in it interior. Put the part-time transfer case behind the five speed and the V8. Offer the 'ugly' grey cladding again, so you don't have to worry about scratching the 'Zanno' finish when in the woods. Put some real anchor points on the front end and a place to mount a winch. And drop the price 5 grand.

I can't afford to have both a 'pretty' concrete cruiser, and an off-road rig. So offer me the working mans version, I'll take it.

OK, I'll bite too.

Here's what I like about my 4Runner Sport: I spent much less than $43K (actually, less than $30K, plus taxes and fees) but got 95% of the features I wanted. I would have liked a power driver seat, but the manual controls work fine.

I briefly considered the Limited, which would have ran about $3.5K more than my Sport. The leather was nice, but there wasn't any "gotta have" feature that allowed me to justify spending the premium.

To be honest, if I were to spend $43K on my next vehicle, it would probably be an RX330 (I know it's a completely different animal from the 4Runner, however off-roading is not a high priority for me).

But for $30K, give or take a few thousand, I don't think you'll find another SUV that's as well-rounded (or equipped) as the 4Runner.

Edited to add: side note on the Avalon: I was not impressed with the panels that covered the radio controls and other compartments on the dash and console. Maybe it was just the auto show model I was in, but the panels seemed a bit flimsy and a couple were difficult to latch.

I don't think any SUV with heavy duty off road ability has HIDs, memory seats, rain sensing wipers, and smart cruise control.

I think before they go to memory seats they need to go to improved seats!!! The seats are one of the problem spots that we 4runner owners have to deal with. I can't help you on the luxury features you felt the limited should have. I'm a function over fluff guy and bought a SE AWD V8 and love it. Only cost $33K out the door and it has everything I need/want. The cows can keep their hides for the additional $10K Personally I would like to see Toyota start selling stripper Landcruisers, no leather, etc. in the low $40K range but that ain't going to happen.

That would be hot, sell a bare bones vehicle with no luxury features just the powertran and safety stuff, 30-40k they would probably fly off the lots and they could do it to different degrees with the entire lineup, Chevy offers Corvettes with just the performance
