I like the 4Runner, I really do, however I refuse to buy one until they make some changes. I want the 8 cyl Limited 4x4 with the navigation system and all options, completely loaded. This is why I did not buy this year. At a msrp of about $43,960 you still can't get a memory adjustment for the drivers seat HID headlights are not even an option. The dash is so old fashioned, look at the new Avalon that is so state of the art. This vehicle needs a re desighn so bad. Rain sensing wipers not, Laser cruise control no. Who picks the colors? 90 yr old men with one foot in the grave and another on a bananna peal? Lets have some pretty vibrant colors. They should call it old man red not red salsa pearl. I would love bright red or bright yellow, im alive these muted colors have to go. I also would like TRD options factory installed. The tires, lets put some really big ones on it, this is a 4x4 if I wanted small tires I would buy another lexus.

Well, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

If you want garish colors and juvenile bling bling wheels, then go buy what you want. Toyota's colors are just fine and I have no need to call attention to myself.

As far as nav systems go, I can read a map. I can actually read a topo map and can do land nav/orientation as well. Can you do two point back azimuth to triangulate yourself? Ya know that there are three types of "north"? Magnetic north, true north, and map north? Do yo uknow how to read a magnetic deflection to figure out how to get map north to magnetic north? SO why would I need a nav if not to just add to this "bling bling" nonsense?

Memory seats? I'm the only driver. so how many times do I need to adjust them? I hardly ever used my 8 way power seats in my Tahoe let alone the "manual" seat adjustments in my SR5.

Headlights? I prefer to have a set of 110w Hellas that have served me so well in my previous vehicles when I actually went traveling and exploring in some really dark places.

Dash old fashioned? I may gripe about the lack of proper gauges such as oil pressure gauge, voltmeter gauge, coolant temp gauge with proper temp markings, but the dash right now is legible and clean. You want those white gauges with black numbers or those glow in the dark pointers?

17" wheels not big enough? Are you aware that 265/65/17 or in most of our upgrades 265/70/17 at almost identical to 265/75/16 or 31" tires in most other trucks in the 3/4-1 ton class? Real off roading wheel/tire combos require sidewall to air down or for flex but still have to balance out in street driving and every day towing and load carrying comfort. Obviously Toyota is going to make a car that fits 99% of the real world drivers and buyers, and not the 1% who tries to fit 44" super boggers on them.

I think before they go to memory seats they need to go to improved seats!!! The seats are one of the problem spots that we 4runner owners have to deal with. I can't help you on the luxury features you felt the limited should have. I'm a function over fluff guy and bought a SE AWD V8 and love it. Only cost $33K out the door and it has everything I need/want. The cows can keep their hides for the additional $10K Personally I would like to see Toyota start selling stripper Landcruisers, no leather, etc. in the low $40K range but that ain't going to happen.

The seat problem you mention, is this on all model/years 4Runners? I have not experienced any problem with my seats. Maybe the Limited leather seats are exempt.

There are ALWAYS options that people would like included with the top of the line models. Some other vehicles may have some of the options that the Limited Runner doesn't have but if you take a good look at the options it does have, and compare it to some of the more expensive vehicles, you will see that you get a really good bang for the buck. One option is the auto leveling rear air suspension and XREAS.

I just went to visit Dad in Southern Cal and was re-exposed to all those idjots in their lowered Hindas with those massive wings, slacker guys in ankle length "shorts", oversized Laker t-shirts, and baseball hats backwards, or get this, visors backwards/sideways and upside down. Roaring (or should I say whining like a sewing machine) way past the speed limit in those Mugen Powered Civics or Mistu Evos with those silly ass 4 foot wings on the rear and trash can size Borla pipes......blasting some hip hop garbage......

Guess when you reach a certain age like me you get more and more crotchety and less and less tolerant. GGGGRRRRR!!!!!!! (God dang whipper snappers!)

Hell I'm glad none of that crap came on my runner. It's just more expensive stuff to break sooner or later (with a runner it will be later but I drive my vehicles until the wheels fall off of them). I hate automatic lights and wipers; they always come on when they aren't supposed to. Are you really to lazy to adjust the seat using one of the two hands the good Lord gave you? I hate bright pastel colored vehicles, especially 4x4's. They look gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). Vehicles always come from the factory with crappy tires. Just replace them. It's not hard.

I'm so glad that you added that there is nothing wrong with being "gay." We do so strive for PC around here! (not!):gay:

Actually, this is far inferior to Audi's design. Not enough play in the dial. Audi has 6 numeric positions on its seat dial.

I find it funny about the complaint of no rain sensing wipers;why is that necessary? Have people become too lazy to notice it's raining and flick a switch? Laser cruise control? Aren't we suppossed to be paying attention anyways while driving? I think stuff like that can make us lathargic and inattentive while driving and may lead to more accidents;I like actually driving my Runner.

I tink you got it wrong, Hubby.

We're not fanatical about the Runner though many of us are. However, we all love the Runner's reliability, dependability, and off road capability and prefer form and function over anything else. And the folks here are really, really nice. ANd very knowedgable too.

What you might think is lacking may not be what most of us feel is lacking. What you believe is luxury may not be what many of us believe are necessary. There is a big difference. Most "luxury" items are just gimmicky fru fru that adds little to nothing to the vehicle's capability or safety. Memory seats, rain sensor, nav gear, etc., just don't add to the vehicle's ability to fire up and start each day for the next 20 years. For most of us, it does not even add to the car's value that much. Just more fru fru.

If you want juvenile bling bling, go for it. But don't expect Toyota to make it part of the car becasue perhaps that is not what their customer base is. I can't recall seeing one pimped out 4Runner in Southern Cal, home of pimp-mobiles. I have not seen one pimped out 4Runner in Nothern Cal, where severe snow storms nad rain make the Runner's capabilities so much more necesary.

Toyota does not pimp out their cars. They focus on making quiet, dependable, relilable vehicles very well. ANd they do it so well that they have surpassed Ford years ago and catching up to GM as the largest car maker in the world, with less than 1/3 of the models GM produces. So whne you compain about certian lacking attributes, well, they may not be lacking and they may not be attributes most other people want. The world does not revolve around your tastes.

A couple of comments from my side.

First off you canget the Toyota for a lot less than MSRP, especially the LTD with all the goodies. Try that with any of the luxury brands, like Lexus, BMW, etc. But it is still quite a bit more expensive than lets say an Explorer. I guess quality costs something, but also remember the V6 4Runner produces the power of the V8 explorer (I'm talking HP and TQ not just HP hounding here)

Memory seats I think was a big blunder on the LTD by Toyota, for its price range they should really have done something about it.

HID is not offered by Toyota or Lexus for vechiles of this height for safety reasons, the probably prefer that oncoming drivers remains part of the seeing population or something. Suppose it is similar to BMW and Mercedes deciding to limit their vechiles to 155MPH.

Dash redesign is a fuction of taste I suppose. I prefer the simple design that is easy to clean. It has a couple of add placements and there certainly is room for improvement, but so do all vechiles. AT least they didn't go backwards in dash design like BMW (a brand I used to love especially the interior layout, the new models all suck).

Rain sensing wipers would have been a nice touch, however laser cruise is not offered to vechiles in this segment yet. It is a luxo brand thing in the market at this point. SO I have no idea why yo would expect bread and butter Toyota to offer this when some luxury brands dont offer it in their mid size SUVs.

As to tires. The 4R in all forms come with 31" tires, which is bigger than any other midsize SUV including Jeep. Their uprated Rubicon has 31" tires. The new Grand Cherokee can't even take 31" tires without a lift. SO I think your analysis here is completelyunfair. Heck the 4Runner can take 32" tires stock, far more than anything else in it's class.

Besides you get a pretty decent platform for that price. Strong drivetrain and a very solid body on frame layout with a real decend suspension.

Yeah it might lack a few luxuries, but it makes up fro it in a lot of other areas. Besides a lot of the luxuries you seemingly want is only availible in in the LUxo category. The 4Runner is nice, but it is still a bread and butter runner.

He obviously knew this after he saw the car, but still decided to rant and rave about something he didn't intend on getting. That is what you call a waste of time.

husband I really don't understand how you could expect any other response... Your very first post is nothing but complaints about the 4Runner (except for the first sentence). You got pissed off at a couple of posts that (to me) were sarcastic humor, not personal insults (it really helps to have a sense of humor around here). You flamed people for not giving you answers, when you never actually asked a question. In fact, the only post you liked was the only other one that complained about the 4Runner. I was OK with your first post, because everyone has their own opinion. However, the ones following convinced me that you just want trouble. The tone and content of your posts is consistent with a troll, which understandably draws heated posts from other members. Let me give you a hint, this is probably the wrong place to complain about a 4Runner that you don't even have. I'm sure there is a Jeep Grand Cherokee forum that would be very receptive to your opinion.
