Top-off and rear window question

So if I'm running a 1st-gen with the top off, will the rear window have problems if it gets rain/mud on or inside the tailgate? Should I cover the slot for the window with something?

The contact is already not working too well...don't want to kill the whole thing.

Thanks,

AX

The window has a rubber seal a the top that should keep most of the elements out. I think there are drain holes at the bottom of the door that you might want to check to make sure they are open. My top had not been off for the first 20 years but there was still some rust inside the tailgate.

dude- that tailgate is the weak spot on all first gen 4rs- its hard to find an intact one anywheres it snows. It will rust out quick. Check your rubber seal, but more important, take off the access panel on the back of the t-gate and see what condition things are in. Spray some WD40 on everything- check for drain holes and make some if they aint there. I had big tailgate problems- lots of others have to.
A word to the wise guy....

I wheel all summer long w/o the hardtop, never worried about that. The inner and outter weather strips seem to seal mine fine.
