Torn between tires... Cooper AT3 or ATP? vs BFG?

Got a set of 31's of Cooper AT3 for my first-gen. Yes, they hum a bit, but I guess it's a trait of All-Terrains. Same problem with my earlier Duratracs.

I wonder how the BFG's sound. I guess the best judges would be (rare) those who had actually tried them both under same driving conditions.

Where did you end up purchasing them from? Sounds like a great deal.

I have 38k miles on my Cooper ATP. They are great. Still no noise and I've rotated them regularly every 10k miles when I do oil changes. Probably have 1/2 the life left, looks like they could easily go 50k miles.

I'm running 275/55 R20 FWIW..

I posted opinion before, but I like photos when I am looking at info so I'll contribute. These are C load, wife's truck and 90% on road. The last week in the LBL they worked nice. Look great also.

So I have 1 year, 22k mile review.
As others have noted, tire noise has increased, nothing that is unbearable, but notice it bc I drive a Highlander 90% of the time and the runner when wife lets me. Tires have been rotated every service (5k) and the treads are still very strong, no blemishes or defects to the tires. I have taken several trips that take us off the hardball.
Snow traction is average.

I would buy again if I got the discount I did before, but think I will try the BFG’s next.

My thoughts on the ride home did not include buying new tires. What I thought about was maybe I should install some sound-deadening material on the doors and floors. Would keep out some road noise, and help out the stereo too! :thumb:

Despite the uptick in road noise, I would still purchase the ATP's again.

Bueno ! I got the stuff from Lowes that [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] used on his , very cheap roll & bought 2 ! Sticks on well & just doubled it up & it really helps ,plus very easy to shape in that tight space ! :vader: you can even add more as it sticks well & forgot sprayed the rubberized stuff just in the bottom part of door & now they sound nice & heavy !:laugh:

I have about 15k on my P rated AT3s. Not had any issues (a tad loud perhaps). However, a trip North of Duluth MN this past weekend, temps in the sub zero to low teens, unsalted roads. Felt extremely unsafe. The 4runner fishtailed several times at 40 mph (driving on the clean part of the road with snow/ice on the center and dividers).

ABS, VSC and slight corrections on steering wheel (more the tech than my steering input) helped keeps us on the roads but it was a big disappointment regarding the tires/performance.

Was kind of sad watching my brothers Tesla Model X with continental highway tires just cruising along with no issues.

That’s interesting as I had the exact opposite experience with the AT3’s on my trip toVermont a couple of weeks ago. Sub zero, snow and unsalted roads...etc. the compounding is the same but I have the LT flavor with deeper tread, could have helped in cleaning out the ice and snow.

So I will be changing out my wife’s ATP’s for KO2’s at 30k miles wife doesn’t want to deal with the tire drone. I have to say, the ATP’s have gotten very loud in the last 8k miles. They still have great traction in the wet and snow, but neither of us can deal with the drone any longer. (Put ATP’s on my adventure trailer)
Discount tire has sale on eBay, $100 off $400+. So two transactions and was able to get set for $700.
There is enough reviews on here for KO2 do no need to do that.

I think any all terrain tire will eventually develop a drone. I have the Cooper AT3's in size LT 265/70/17 Load range C. I currently have 62,000 miles on them and they are still doing well. They still have a decent amount of tread left. Some people even think they are fairly new. They still handle great on wet roads. This is the best wet weather tire I have ever owned.
They have definitely gotten louder over time but that is to be expected. I had some balancing issues early on but no problems otherwise.
When I'm due for new tires I will most likely go with the AT3's again in size LT 275/70/17. It's just a great all around tire.

I remember looking at some load inflation index tables when I first put them on and decided on that psi. If you have the P rated tires I would just keep them at the recommended psi for a stock tire on the 4runner.

I have owned cooper at3 265/75/16 and BFG k2O 275/70/17. The coopers where very load on the highway and did not clean snow well. Now the BFG I forget I even have all-terrain tires. They do very well at on road and off road needs for me. I would recommend the BFG over the coopers. But I'm a very big fan of cooper just not the AT3.

No issues for the last 8000 miles, wearing evenly and not noisy.

Thank you sir. I should have been more specific. I have the P rated and am currently at 35 or 36psi. Will check and adjust.
