torque specs on lbj

Im planning on doing the lbj on my 99 t4r. I found 59 ft lbs for the 4 bolts and add loctite, and 112ft lbs on the stud with the castle but. DOes this sound right. Thanks

Sounds fine, though I think my FSM calls for 105ft/lbs for the castle nut. Anywhere in between those two #s and you should be good to go. 66ft/lb for the TRE.

Yea, 37 seems low but then again you mentioned 2002 model. Thanks for clearing it up for me and others with different year runners.

I was looking for these numbers as well, and found several different numbers that varied quite a bit (ex: 37 vs 59..)

Is there a definitive answer for this? Why would the torque change for a different model year? They're the same parts.

I was going to go with 59 for the small bolts and 105 for the big bolt. But it would be nice to know that it is actually correct.

55 for small 100 for big too tight and they will break right off seen it happen many times

I was reading a thread somewhere a while back where a guy got the numbers mixed up and tightened his small bolts to 112 lbs.:lol: Needless to say, they never made it outta the garage. I've done plenty of stupid s**t in my time, but I'd really have to question myself before putting 112* to those little guys.

So I did one side yesterday, outer tie rod was about 70 ft lbs to get cotter pin thru, lower was about 114ft to also get cotter pin thru. 4 bolts with locitie 59ft lbs

I was skeptical about replacing the 4 bolts. A couple looked pretty rusted so maybe it is worth $13 for peace of mind. FYI, this is a Virginia car, no or very little salt.

Every torque spec. Pulled these out of the FSM for a ‘99. Can’t imagine they would change too much stuff up, as far as steering/body/basic engine.

I've done the LBJ's several times and find that by following the exact torque spec, about 40% of the time the cotter pin hole won't line up perfectly so I'll loosen, and retry a few times. Sometimes it'll be close enough such that you can just tighten it until they line up.
