Torque Specs.

Hey Doc do you have the torque requirements for part #90116-08270? These are the three stud bolts that the water pump slides onto and then the thermostat housing is fastened with three nuts. I think all the nuts call for 14ft lbs but have been unable to find the stud bolt torque spec. Thank you

You can probably use the same spec as the nuts but it's not as critical since there is no clamping force created by the stud, rather the nuts do that; you just don't want these backing out. I would use thread locker on the stud threads. Regardless, it would be a good add to the first page.

Torque Specs

Anyone have torque specs for Toyota 43521-35010 Axle Bearing Lock Nut?

This is a large nut that goes on the back of the wheel hub on a 2WD 1998 4runner - cinching the hub and bearing together.

Maybe it has the same torque as the CV axle nut would on a 4WD?

I cannot find mention of it at all in the my FSM. It is a 1999 manual - but I'm fairly certain they were built this way for all 3rd gen years. In which case this is a weird omission.

I'll call Toyota on Monday - but would prefer to reassemble tomorrow if someone has the info. Thanks!

So if the ring gear bolts in the rear diff are 71ft lbs with elocker and 92ft lbs without, what should you use if you were open diff but going to an air locker? Specifically ARB

If ARB install instructions do not specify then I would go with 92 lb/ft

Couldn't find anybody providing an explanation as to why but I was able to find several people saying to just stick with the original torque spec when going to air locker, whether it be 71 or 92. I imagine it has to do with gear ratio difference between the two; with most elockers being 4.30 and whatnot. Perhaps the elocker carrier ans/or ring gear is made of harder material to compensate for excess strain it'll see and thus can handle a higher torque value, who knows
However I did find at least one source saying 71 would be sufficient for elocker ring gears as well... not sure how I feel about that so take that information how you want to
At any rate I couldn't find an answer in time so I just split the difference and went with 80
