Are you talking about the one in the back? Just the two bolts hold it on... I took mine off a couple of months ago to install my hitch. Maybe it's rusted on there so try hitting it with a hammer... should pop right off.

I agree, if it is the one in the back drivers side 2 bolts and it should come right off. Also took mine off for a hitch.

if you are trying to remove the Hitch as shown in your pick, going to be more then 2 screws. On my 2006 v6, I believe there are 4 bolts that hold it on. With the weight distribution hitch on the V8, I would imagine their would be 2-3 bolts per side rail.

Tow Hooks located on the Front

He is asking about the Tow Hooks,

Located on the front of the vehicle.

Anyone know how to remove?

This is for installatio of a Bull Bar (Push Bar, large tubular bumper that mounts to the frame of the vehicle, in the Front)

Hence, why we need to remove the tow hooks located under the front of the vehicle

Any help in understanding this process apprciated!

Thanks

Pretty sure you have to remove the plastic bumper cover to access all the bolts. I'm doing mine next spring but have looked and have to remove bumper cover.

He isn’t asking about the “tow hooks” on the front of the vehicle. See post #4. He’s asking about the receiver hitch.

The tow hooks on the front are welded to or through the radiator support depending on the year range and would have to be cut off with a torch or grinder. Most aftermarket bumpers bolt to the frame horns and do not require removing those for any reason. Not sure about cheapie bull bars.
rdruss I think you’re right about having to remove the bumper cover to unbolt the receiver, at least on the V6. Not sure about the v8 one. Seems that you may be able to just unbolt the lower support brackets and pry it back far enough without removing the entire bumper though.

There's a slew of bolts that hold the receiver on. I recall reading in another thread, when I removed mine to repaint it, that the bolts are not reusable.

Since a receiver hitch isn't something to f*ck around with, I got new bolts.

It would be infinitely easier to remove the bumper cover to mess around with the receiver. However, note that the hooks that hold the upper edges on, below the rear window, are very fragile and unforgiving. And that particular mount is a tad pricey if you break off some of those fingers.

Not that I would... know...

Regardless, prying on the bumper cover isn't likely the best plan. Maybe pop by a body shop and ask them to remove the cover.
